Design Unique Photo Gifts at RitzPix

May 10, 2013 by Kristine

I love taking pictures and doing special things with them for my family. I have made collages, photo books and photo mugs in the past. When I was asked to do a review by creating something at RitzPix.com, I was looking forward to choosing a fun project from the site.

You are probably familiar with Ritz & Wolf Camera & Image, a retail destination for cameras and imaging. There are approximately 130 store locations across the country. In July 2003, the company launched an online imaging site – RitzPix, providing online ordering and pick-up at retail locations. Offering services for prints, online storage and more than 100 personalized photo gifts, the company continues to dedicate its legacy to empowering consumers to share, display and save all of life’s treasured memories.

I decided to create something using a recent picture I took in Paso Robles, Calif. We visited several wineries while we were there and came across a winery called Niner, which just had the most beautiful grounds. Among the grape vines, on a hill, was a cluster of trees that looked like a huge heart from where we were standing. I just loved it and starting snapping away with my camera. I decided to use the photo I took to create a little piece of wall art that we could put in either the kitchen or the guest bathroom. I thought about a canvas print, but I wanted to do something a little more contemporary and creative and chose to do my print on aluminum metal. Yes, aluminum metal! That was a choice offered by RitzPix.

The web site was very intuitive and easy to navigate and there are so many interesting photo gifts, that it took me a while to actually figure out what I wanted to create. The choices ranged from photo prints and cards/stationery, to calendars, clothing, and placemats and even dog/cat bowls. Once I made my choice, it was incredibly simple to upload my photo and place the order. A really unique feature that they offer at RitzPix is the ability to upload photos from Facebook and Instagram, so if there’s a photo you shared at either of those sites, you can easily grab it for your project.

Once I completed the order, I received an email confirmation immediately and then received another email when my item shipped, which was the next day. I was so pleasantly surprised that my order had been processed and was being shipped in one day. It then only took a few days for the package to make its way to my mailbox.

My print looked vivid on the sturdy metal and even came with a floating wall mount. I am really happy with the item that I ordered; however, I wish I would have ordered a larger size of the print. I have plenty of 5×7 prints around the house, but it just seemed so much smaller than I expected since there is no matting or frame. It was also not quite as metallic looking as I expected, but the quality is excellent. Perhaps the metal look would be more noticeable if I had chosen an image that featured people instead of a landscape.

Overall though, I was very impressed with the whole process at RitzPix — from logging on and uploading my photos to finalizing and paying for my order, it was a snap (pun intended!). Whether you are a budding photographer, a more seasoned shutterbug or maybe just that crazy mom that captures every single memory, it’s about making the most out of those moments you want to remember and share.

I’m still trying to find the right spot to hang my masterpiece, and am beginning to think that it needs to be one in a series of photos. Sounds like a good reason to take another little wine weekend getaway!
