Wishing on Willows by Katie Ganshert
Have you ever thought about if you would find love again if your spouse passed away? I know many people believe that there is only one true love in your life, but is that necessarily so? Do you think that God wants us to be lonely or that falling in love with someone else would disrespect the memory of your first love? These are questions that I have too and while I am not dealing with that issue, the storyline in this book I was sent for review does touch on them.
Wishing on Willows (Waterbrook Press, March 19, 2013) continues author Katie Ganshert’s debut novel Wildflowers from Winter… with the story of Robin Price as she deals with a three-year old son, a struggling café, and fading memories of her late husband. Although fiction, the real-life topics addressed by Ganshert provides readers thought provoking situations such as single-parenting, second chances and surrendering your personal plans for God’s plans.
My Thoughts:
This book was a winner from the first chapter. The author crafts her story well and draws you into the heart and mind of the main character, Robin. She is deeply in love and working on her dream business. Life could not get any better than that, you would think! But there is a dark side. The love of her life is gone, gone but not forgotten. Single parents will recognize the struggles that come with dealing with childcare and working; that delicate balancing act and the guilt that comes along with it. She often wonders what is God’s plan for her.
And the dream business? It is in trouble although Robin does not want to acknowledge it. Plus the city wants to put condo’s in and now there is a stranger that keeps bugging her about her business. Frustration and stress are at the top of her list. Robin has dead set on making sure her business stays in business because it also is a support for the community and the church outreach, serving those without. Robin is keenly committed to helping others with loss as she is dealing with it on a daily basis.
This book is a refreshing look at life from a different point of view. A mother who is hurting; a child who misses a father; family who want to help but don’t know how; and the stranger, Ian, who is too good looking, always around when not expected and wants to destroy her business. Can Robin make sense of it all without losing her marbles, keep her business on track and fall in love too? Only God knows the answer and you will too when you grab this book.
This is a beautiful story that the author pulls you right into. A light, Christian romance that is emotional and light hearted too. In the back of the book, there are a series of questions that you can answer that will help guide you with your life situations too. I like that touch! Definitely a book for all and the perfect one for a lovely weekend read!
