Winners for April 18th + Neighbors Problem – Need Advice!!!

Good morning everyone! How are all of you this morning? Before I get to the winner’s announcement…I have a neighbors problem and need some advice!!!

We moved into our house back on Jan. 4th and before we even moved in we talked to our neighbors about their 3 big labs (dogs) coming over and crapping in our yard. We don’t have dogs and felt that their dogs should stay in their yard and do their business over there. Well….their dogs are still making daily (sometimes twice daily) trips into our yard and taking their craps!

Since we have moved in here…we have talked to them at least 10 times about the dogs crapping in our yard and have been FIRM about them not letting their dogs over here to do that. On Saturday we walked around our yard and documented over 60+ piles of dog crap and I took photos of 5 piles of it for documentation. Hubby then mowed the grass and our lawn looked nice again.

Well…since Sunday…they dogs have been over numerous times and have taken their craps in our yard. As of last night, 14 new piles of dog crap are in our back yard! OH MY GOSH….I am freaking furious about this!!!

We have talked to them repeatedly about it and get excuses each and every time. This is so dang disrespectful and we have avoided calling the police as we didn’t want to cause hard feelings & neighbor problems but now…we are FED UP!

Do any of you have any suggestions for us on how to get this issue to stop? How can we get them to take this problem seriously?

Anyway, We had a few new giveaways end late last night so we do have new winners to announce this morning. We used Random.org to select the winner once we verified all entries into the giveaway. We will email the winner and they will have 48 hours to respond to that email to claim their prize. Once 48 hours have passed, we reserve the right to select a new winner.

The 2 winners for the Soft Scrub Giveaway are: Anne B. and Dawn K.

The 3 winners for the MensGroom Shaving Products are: Karen B., Allison B., and Ashley S.

Congrats to our winners! Emails will be sent shortly so that you can claim your prizes. Thanks for any advice you can give and have a great Thursday!

people are just so inconsiderate now days which is really a shame. i would be so tempted to toss it back in there yard. there is some stuff called Liquid Fence that you can try using but its such a shame that you have to spend money on something because of somebody elses stupidity.

Well leash laws have been covered- and likely getting pics of the dogs actually ‘doing the deed’ as well as pics of the poops the dogs leave behind.

I find it very disrespectful. They know their dogs are doing it and at one point must have made it clear to the dogs pooping in ther own yard was off limits but your yard was fair game. (could be one of the reasons the previous owners moved)

If you file a complaint, see if it is the first complaint against them-likely it isnt as the dogs have been doing it awhile.

  3. Thanks everyone! I am loving your suggestions! We do have a leash law in our township and it is a leash law violation. Earlier today I had gotten a shower and was wrapped in a towel and noticed the dang dogs in our yard taking a crap AGAIN! By the time I got dress & got out there…they were already back in their house. ugh!!!

We are trying to get this to stop as we are putting in a huge veggie garden and I be damn if I want a gazillion piles of dog crap in my garden or dog urine all over my veggie plants.

I just don’t understand why they don’t keep those dogs in their OWN yard. They just open their back door, all 3 big dogs come running out and within 1 minute they are in my back yard doing their potty. So tired of it!!!

  4. My mom used to use something called SCRAM! Maybe Home Depot or Lowe’s would have something

  5. There’s got to be a way to scare the dogs off your propery try googling it Urine smell will distract coyotes maybe hanging wind chimes

  6. Put up a fence?

  7. Is there a neighborhood association? If so what are the rules about dogs running loose? Report them to the association. Report them to the ASPCA. So far as gathering the poop in a bag and dumping it in their house …very bad idea. It could get you in big trouble. Now you could just hand them the bag, smile sweetly and say you were returning what their dogs left in your yard. So far as causing hard feelings, I think they have already caused the hard feelings.

Well there are a couple of things you can do..first Since you have tried to talk with the owners of the dogs and no response from them , go and file a complaint. That way you have it on files and if any other problems arise you have a back up, 2nd.. do you have a leash policy( Law) in your area? Check it out and report them and 3.. call the board of health / humane society and also make a report. I don’t blame you for being upset, you have every right to protect your home and family. Advise then of the steps you will be taken and hopefully they will know you mean business. Good luck!

Gather up all the dog poop, put it in a bag. Knock on the neighbor’s door. When they answer, shake the poop out of the bag onto their floor (INSIDE THE HOUSE). Smile, and say “I believe this is yours?” If it continues, collect the poop everyday and dump it out of the bag on their doorstep, and smear it around with a stick. Eventually the message will sink in. Drastic situations call for drastic measures. It did come from their dogs, after all – you are only “returning their property”. Animal control and the cops will not treat this as a major issue – it’s up to you. Good luck!

I have to agree with the advice that you’ve been given here. This is your property. By allowing their dogs to have free reign and showing no intent to control the dogs behavior, it seems to me that they are willfully desecrating your property. First off, it’s a crime. In any neighborhood! It’s also a major safety concern. By leaving it to you to chase the dogs out of your yard, they are deliberately putting you in a situation where your safety could be in jeopardy. You don’t know how these dogs are going to react to your aggressive behavior. What if they come at you? What if they become the aggressors? I’m a dog owner and I take my responsibility very seriously. I don’t allow my dogs to run loose on anyone else’s property. I certainly don’t allow them to do their business there either! If by chance that did happen, I would immediately get my butt out there and clean it up!!! Some people don’t deserve to have animals!

  11. Julie Wood says

This is downright rude and disrespectful! I have a neighbor that does not care about her dogs in the backyard of her house. She leaves them for hours outside, even when it is cold. Why have a dog if you are going to ignore it! I really feel for you having to go through this! I do not understand why they think it is okay to let their dogs do this. I would get the dog pound involved, and go to the police. Also, it would be nice if there was a fence put up so these dogs can not get into your yard!

  12. I am experiencing a problem as well. There is a leash law in our area and I have a neighbor that has 2 indoor dogs. When they have to go out, she just opens the door and lets them go. The small one stays at home most of the time, but the bigger one is some kind of hunting dog. That dog has a blast chasing the neighborhood cats. Most days, she lets her dogs stay out almost all day to roam around. I have talked to her, another neighbor has talked to her, the animal control people have come over and warned her, and also the local police have been there…and she still does it. The dogs don’t poop in our yard, the one just terrorizes the cats. It says something about the owners, don’t you think? I don’t want to mingle with such disrespectful people.

I would start calling the animal control and local police. It is not right for you to live like that.

    Congratulations to all 5 winners.
I agree with the advice that you have been given. You have been nice and if you don’t want to put up a fence it is time to write a letter or call the civic association or police.

  14. I feel for you guys, we have a lab and he is on a leash and only goes in our yard which we take care of. Its really terrible that you have to put up with this crap. Maybe you will have no choice but to put up a fence to keep them out. But maybe for now you have been the nice person and they are disrespectful so maybe you should go the the police.

  15. It’s a real shame when people don’t take control of their animals when they have the problem concerning their animals brought to their attention numerous times.. I know we had that same problem all last summer and had to mention to the dogs owners what was happening. Since the dogs were getting out of their own yards it was just a matter of notifying the police.. Another neighbor was advised by the police to call the animal control and Board of Health in our area by the police themselves. The BOH issued citations and then they ended up having to go to municipal court where of course they won. Good luck and hope it ends well for you.Obviously these people haven’t done anything about the problem since you’ve told them so many times.

  16. Thanks ladies for the advice! We have tried EVERYTHING…sprinkling Cayenne pepper along the property line, buying $20 canisters of granules that are supposed to ward off dogs, chasing the dogs out when we catch them, etc. Between my husband and I…we have told the neighbors VERBALLY at least 15 times that this is a problem and we want it to stop.

    ugh…what a nightmare!

  17. Sherry Compton says

Does your community have a fence or leash policy regarding animals? If so remind your neighbor of this. I know the pet control has been called before in my neighborhood for people letting their dogs out and roam. I agree with writing the letter…Make sure to keep a copy. Are other neighbors having problems with these dogs, too?

  18. md kennedy says

I agree – time to get the police involved if your neighbors are not willing to listen or act. Maybe they are nice but just don’t know what to do?

Ask an advice blogger, i felt the need to respond 🙂

First of all, go on google and look for signs (i’ve seen them) that say something like IF your dog craps here, …..

I know I’ve also seen signs saying that “This person lets their dog do it’s business anywhere and not clean it up”

But of course thats a bit abrasive lol so honestly, you should type a nice polite letter, citing everything you said above, and put a CC on the actual letter and copy your local Police Department AND /OR your neighborhood civic association, township office, etc….. This way they see others are now made aware of this. You can also call your police department and let them know of the issue and that you are going to be sending them a letter and want to know whose name to put as the CC for the Police Dept. SInce htis is also considered a warning, the next time something goes down with it, you can easily call the police, reference your letter, and they can contact your neighbor.
Seriously dont stand for this, because its disgusting.

Or of course you can get some sort of little lattice fencing to line that part of the yard in to make a bold statement to KEEP YOUR DOGS OUT to the neighbors.
