When I was single, I was living in a relatively expensive area of California with no thought in my mind about home ownership. I was happy in my house I was renting from a friend and it was perfect for me. Then I met my soon to be husband and moved away to an area much different than I was used to. We started a new life together, rented a place and within a year, we were expecting a child. Another move to a new town closer to work for my husband started us thinking about owning our own home.

Personally, I did not think that we would ever be able to afford to buy a home, especially in California. In my feeble brain, that was something for people that were making a lot more money than we did at the time. Plus my husband had some dings on his credit from when he was younger and I figured we would have to wait it out to clear. A friend suggested that we start looking around at homes to buy, just to see what was out there. When we did, we met a wonderful lady that was a REALTOR® with the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and she assured me that she could and would help us get the home of our dreams.
Working with our REALTOR® was so easy! She walked us through qualifying for a home, in the neighborhood we wanted, that we could easily afford. She helped us secure financing and told us what to do to clear the dings in my husbands credit. We had so many questions during the process, I thought for sure we would make her crazy. But she walked us through every process from financing to closing, patiently answering questions for us. Soon, we were working with the builders to create our home, just the way that we wanted it to be. It was all because a Realtor helped us get the home we had desired.
Our home is in a small town, with great schools, in a quiet neighborhood, where everyone knows what is going on. The moms know who’s child is who’s and we meet each year on the pool deck, at the football field or baseball field. That is how I met one of my best friends. My son has been lucky to attend school with friends that he met in kindergarten and next year they will all graduate together. It is something that I dreamed for him and I am so thrilled to have achieved that all by purchasing a home with the help of a REALTOR®.
If you are a California resident or hope to be one soon, you may be able to make your dream come true too by owning a home of your own. Find a REALTOR® that is a member of the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and you will know that they have the training and the skill to help you with your purchase. We are so glad that we did!

I love a ‘happily ever after’ story. I’ve been in my Townhouse for 30 years and I can’t remember how I found it, but I like it just as much as I did when I moved in.
