Simple Tips for Cleaning Mini Blinds

Simple Tips for Cleaning Mini BlindsEvery spring and fall seasons I like to give all of our mini blinds a good overall cleaning. It’s important that you clean them at least twice a year to keep the dust, dirt, grease and allergens under control. They can get dirty lickety split and are often HARD to clean. Here’s a few tips on cleaning up those mini blinds.

Before you get started inspect them for any type of damage. If slats are broken…time to upgrade with new blinds. If the pull-string has seen better days…time to replace them. These days you can buy inexpensive window blinds for under $25 a window…or shop for luxury blinds if you choose. If you have children living in the house…make sure you CHILD PROOF THEM before hanging them up!!!

Take them outside if you can. I like to mist them with a garden hose and then spray them with a non-toxic, natural all-purpose cleaner. Let them sit for at least one hour to allow all of the dirt and grime to run off. Then spray them down with the garden hose again. If needed, wipe with a damp microfiber cloth to remove any stubborn dirty areas. Hang them up over a porch banister or clothesline to air dry.

If you can’t take them outside the easiest way to give them a deep clean is in your bathtub or shower. I have a hand-held shower head in our one bathroom and use it when cleaning them. You’ll want to spray them down with a non-toxic, all natural cleaner…..let them sit for a bit and then rinse clean. Hang them up inside the shower to air dry.
