Sweet and Sour Sauce Recipe

My husband loves dipping a variety of things in a good homemade sweet and sour sauce. When I make this sauce, I let it cool and then store it in the refrigerator. Whenever he wants his dipping sauce, he just gets into the refrigerator and gets it. LOL (seriously, he LOVES this stuff).

Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce Recipe

3/4 cup white vinegar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp. catsup
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 cup sherry

In a medium sized saucepan, combine together the vinegar, granulated sugar, pineapple juice, water and catsup. Stir over low heat until the sugar has completely dissolved. Stir in the soy sauce, cornstarch and sherry. Simmer over low to low-medium heat until the sauce has thickened. Remove from heat and let cool. Store sauce in the refrigerator until ready to use.

I like this recipe, but the odor of cooking vinegar makes my husband asthmatic. I would have to change the recipe by instead of vinegar using a dry wine and lemon juice.

I like sweet & sour sauce, but never thought about making it myself. This looks easy enough and good. I’d probably use brown sugar.
