Over the weekend my husband was out mowing the grass and doing yard work when it came upon a 6 foot long (at least 6 foot in length) black snake. No, he didn’t kill it. He only kills the ones that are poisonous that get too close to our house. This black snake unfortunate met his demise by getting underneath his riding lawn mower.
He was mowing near a brush pile and didn’t see the snake laying underneath the long grass that he was mowing. They can be great hiders…even the big ones! Anyway, he didn’t realize he even mowed over it until he went back an hour later to clean up some of the grass clippings and debris.
Now…we’re not fans of snakes…we don’t like them but we certainly don’t go out killing them on purpose either. He felt terrible that he had accidentally ran over this poor black snake. He decided to dig it a hole and give it a proper burial which I thought was very respectful. Majority of people hate snakes so bad they wouldn’t of done that. Kudos to my husband for being a real man!!!
We have found other snakes in our yard from time to time but they’ve always been little garter snakes. This was the first time we’ve see one this big in our backyard. I’m hoping it will be the last time!
Congratulations to both winners.
I too heard about the snow and bad rains on the news. I am glad that today is warm here on the east coast, although there is a threat of a little rain. I know you are nervous and you should know that your readers are thinking about you and praying for a good operation and swift recovery.
