My future son-in-law is really into fish and has two elaborate aquariums in their home. The one shown in the photo above is his salt water aquarium and then he has a fresh water aquarium on the other side of the room.
His aquariums are beautiful and I love checking them out when I am visiting them, especially the salt water aquarium because he has some beautiful living coral in there along with various species of salt water fish.
His is really big into the aquarium hobby and spends quite a bit of money on his hobby. When they bought their house last December, he put up new walls just so he could have built-in wall aquariums and he did a really nice job with that project.
Hubby and I tried the aquarium and fish hobby about 15 years ago and were not very good at it…our fish kept dying. So, instead of fish…we now have 2 pet semi-aquatic turtles which I just adore! Their names are Jeeter and A-rod and I will have to blog about them next week!
Anyway, do any of you have fancy aquariums in your home? If so, what kind of aquariums do you have and what kind of fish do you have in them?

I currently have 6 fresh water aquariums, we had 8 at one point. The largest we have is a 75 gallon which is full of cichlids, two 55 gallons, one is all cichlids and the other has some tropicals with cichlids(the cichlids have yet to eat my mean tetras), a 36 gallon that is all tropicals, a 20 gallon with cichlids, and a 15 gallon with two cichlids. At one point my husband had this great idea to breed fish… yeah, you don’t get much for convict and jewel cichlids, but they sure are easy to breed. Needless to say a lot of them ended up becoming fish food. It hurts my feelings if I stop and think about the amount of money that has been spent on fish alone. We had a school of angels and clown loaches, but ich took out the first school of loaches we had and most of the second school while the angels either died from stress, or they got curious and it ended up killing them.
It was not the cheapest thing, but it has saved me from having to go back and forth with buckets.
Your future son-in-law has a beautiful fish acquarium. I never had fish tanks, just smaller fish bowls with goldfish in them when I was very little. I have always admired these larger fish acquariums – they are both lovely and peaceful.
I have never had a huge one but did have small ones with the most beautiful bettas . The cats nearly drove them insane so after the laast one died I took the little aquariums down. I love hw fish tanks look though!
I love to look at aquariums… they are so relaxing. Unfortunately, we don’t have a good history with fish. My daughter had 2 goldfish when she was about 3 years old, and they each only lasted a week 🙁
I like watching the aquariums when I dine at the Fresh Fish Company, but have no interest in having my own. I know how much work they are.
I have always wanted to know how people clean those large fancy tanks. We had a rather large stand tank with the big cupboard underneath. It wasnt until my sweetie tried to clean it that all the fish died. I tried to recreate it many years later, and something we bought made algae grow wildly on the sides of the tank.
we have 2 fresh water aquariums – one is 125 gallons with parrot fish (love them!) and is a community tank, our other 75 gallon tank has discus in them and they are beautiful. We have a 55 we need to set up and hubby wants to get some koi angels that we had years ago. hubby used to breed angels and discus and we had a lot of tanks but now we just have a couple tanks for our own pleasure. They’re so soothing to watch the fish.
Your son in laws tank is beautiful.
