Birds Are Making New Nests and Laying Eggs
Spring is finally here and one thing that I’ve been noticing this year is all of the birds that are calling our property their home! We’ve got all kinds of birds making brand new nests in bushes, trees, in hanging flower baskets and they’re making good use of the bird houses that we have around our property.
Yesterday we took a walk around our 1 acre and counted 17 bird nests and at least half of them had eggs inside them. We saw Robins, House Finches, Cardinals and Sparrows. We have a pair of Doves living in our one very large Azelea bush too! We have a lot of birds this year and I think it’s because of all of the bird feeders, the two bird baths and multiple bird houses we installed last year.
We were never what you would call “bird watchers” but this year we’ve taken a big interest in them. We just ordered a book from Amazon to help us identify all of the ones living on our property. Hubby ordered binnoculars so that we can watch them from a distance while not disturbing them…especially since several of them are sitting on eggs! Yay!!!
Are you a big fan of birds? Do you do things to make your property bird-friendly? Got a favorite bird that you enjoy watching? When we’re in PA….I love watching Cardinals. When we’re down in NJ I love to sit and watch the Egrets and Herons along the shore.
