Shopping for Mens Razors and Shaving Products

How to Use a Shaving Brush to Get a Closer Shave

A few weeks ago my husband and I went out shopping for mens razors and let me tell you, it was a total learning experience for me. When it comes to shopping for men’s shaving products, I usually let them all up to him!

However, he has been working 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day for the past 7 months or so. All of the household shopping has now fell onto me, and I had to learn about purchasing men’s grooming products.

Today, I thought I would share with all of you what I learned.

1. Before you go shopping, ask your hubby (or man) exactly what he likes when it comes to his shaving products. Find out what kind of razor he uses, shaving cream, after-shave lotion, facial wash, shaving brush, etc. Write them down, so that you know exactly what to look for.

2. According to my husband, stay away from the cheap one dollar disposable razors that come in multi-packs. He said they do nothing but rip up a man’s face! When it comes to shaving products, quality is a must-have for good skin health and a smooth shaving experience.

3. When shopping for a manual razor, look for one that is well-balanced and semi-weighty. The handle should be slightly contoured and have ergonomic features. If your man has big hands, go with a bigger razor and if he has smaller hands, go with a smaller one.

4. When purchasing replacement blades, it is recommended that you only use ones that are particularly made for your specific razor. They do not recommend that you use Brand X blades on a Brand A razor. All blades should be sharp and undamaged! If there is damage to the blade, don’t use it…throw it out or return it.

5. If your man has sensitive skin, shop for shavers, shaving creams and after-shave lotions that are made specifically for sensitive skin. Most manufacturers will label their products ‘made for sensitive skin’ alerting you to which products to buy.

Hubby told me that every man has their own preference, so it’s important to find out what he likes and what he needs before you head out the door on your shopping trip. When in doubt, always take the middle to high road and purchase one at a price that you can afford and to stay away from the cheapest on the shelf.

If it’s a gift, get the man the best like a Gillette Fusion Proglide. It costs an arm and a leg (by manual-shaver standards), but each replacement blade lasts and lasts and lasts. If it’s a regular purchase then your article is spot on. I still use my old Mach 3 from like 2006. Replacement blades for those are like 1/3 the price of the new premium shaver replacements, so if your man is okay with that, get something like that 🙂

I already knew most of this from my husband who haas difficult beard to shave and sensitive skin. Although I have ttied different brands I usually go back to the same one which works the best for him.
