Shelly’s 8 Personal Spring Cleaning Tips

8 Personal Spring Cleaning Tips

One of the things I look forward to during this time of the year is my annual Spring Cleaning! As someone who is a self-professed “clean freak”, I enjoy ripping a part my home and giving it a good thorough cleaning.

Today, I thought I would share with all of you some of my personal Spring cleaning tips!

1. Before you start your cleaning projects, sit down and make a detailed list of all of the supplies you will need. This list should include: cleaning supplies, plastic bins, wicker baskets, trash bags, labels (for labeling containers) and any other cleaning and organizing supplies you think you will need. Once your list has been completed, hit the store to purchase them.

2. Concentrate on one room in your house at a time. Once that room has been completed, move onto the next one. Keeping yourself focused on just a single room at a time, will keep you from becoming over-whelmed with the task at hand.

3. Designate four boxes for things you are picking up or rooting out. Label the boxes as:

* Keep – for items that you want to keep and need to put away.
* Donate – for items that you want to donate to charity.
* Give – for items that you specifically want to give to other people.
* Sell – for items that you want to sell.

Once those boxes fill up, get new boxes out! Remember, the purpose for this type of heavy-duty cleaning is to down-size and to clean things up, so make a conscious effort to really fill up boxes #2, 3 and 4.

4. Once everything has been picked up and put back into its rightful place, then you want to tackle the cleaning for that particular room. In my home, I try to stick to natural and organic cleaning products…but use whatever it is that you like to use! Remember to clean the ceilings, walls, windows, floors, ceiling fans, light fixtures and all of those “little things” like light switches, cabinet knobs, telephones, etc. (all of those little things that we normally don’t hit during our day-to-day cleaning). If you’re noticing any signs of pests during your deep clean, it might be worth considering professional help for problems like ants or cockroaches. Companies like las vegas pest control can help tackle these issues quickly and efficiently, so you can continue your cleaning without any extra worries.

5. If you have little kids and find them to be getting in the way ask a family member to take them for the day. I used to plan “daddy & daughter” dates when I was doing my Spring cleaning which got our daughter and the hubby out of my way! They enjoyed that “alone” time together and I enjoyed not having them around! hahaha!

6. Be consistent with your Spring cleaning efforts! No one expects you to get it all done in a day or weekend! For myself, it’s an entire month-long process since I have a large home. Once you start, keep at it until it’s done!

7. Once you are done, it’s time to get rid of those items in boxes #2, 3 and 4. If you have a lot of DVD’s, music CD’s and electronic games that you want to sell, check out one of our favorite online sites called Music Magpie! It’s a great way to make some extra cash and to unload those unwanted items.

8. The Reward! Yes, that’s right…you deserve a reward for completing your Spring cleaning tasks! I always reward myself with a trip to the Day Spa and a new outfit for myself!

There you have it! My 8 personal Spring cleaning tips! Do any of you do Spring cleaning and if so, do you have any tips to share with us? If so, leave them below in our blog’s comment form!

Good tips! Whether I am planning a cleaning project or a renovation job, I try to have all the materials on hand and close by way before I actually need them. It’s awful to have to stop in the middle to run to the store for something or try to find another box. We are doing some major de-cluttering in our basement, and it can be hard. I have collected tons of kids books from my kids, and they have just been boxed up for years. We spent the last weekend going through them, and my daughter kept reminding me that while she would love to keep lots of them they would go to better use elsewhere. Some kids don’t have books at home. It helped us in getting rid of more items to think of others getting use out of them.
