One Night with the King – Starring Peter O’Toole

March 10, 2013 by Shelly

One Night with the King - Starring Peter O'TooleToday we have a great movie review for all of you to enjoy. Today’s movie review is on the newly released (March 5th, 2013) movie called “One Night with the King” starring Peter O’toole, Tiffany Dupont, Luke Goss and Omar Sharif.

Movie Synopsis: With lush cinematography, a mesmerizing score, and an all-star cast that includes Peter O’Toole, Omar Sharif and John Rhys-Davies, One Night with the King is a sweeping epic about Hadassah, the young Jewish orphan who becomes the biblical Esther, Queen of Persia.

Born into poverty, Hadassah (Tiffany DuPont) grows up to become a beauty who catches the eye of the powerful King Xerxes – and ultimately becomes his bride. But despite her position, Hadassah’s life is in danger, as the state has decreed that all Jews will be put to death. Defying warnings to remain silent, however, Hadassah struggles to save her people, even as she attempts to hide her heritage, in this exciting and inspiring story about courage, faith and destiny.

Movie Specs:

* Rated PG
* Total Run Time: 123 Minutes
* Subtitles in English & Spanish
* Closed Captioning
* Audio Commentary featuring Matthew Crouch, Richard Cook, and Stephan Blinn

Our Thoughts: Wow…where do I start with this one! I will admit, I usually don’t get into any stories or films in regards to biblical characters, but I was immediately drawn to this story line. From start to finish, this story line is exciting and has many twists and turns. The main character is Hadassah, a Jewish Queen (although those around her don’t know about her Jewish heritage). She is married to King Xerxes who is a very powerful king and even though he is powerful, there are some things that his power won’t help. Hadassah loves her people and does everything that she can to help save them…but while trying to help them, does her heritage come out? Does it become known? (Well, I am not going to tell you, watch the movie!) LOL

This movie is dramatic, exciting, adventurous, entertaining and well…just a fabulous movie! It is such a great movie, that I even paused it while I ran for a drink! (usually I don’t do that during a movie and just miss a few minutes…however, I didn’t want to miss a single second of this one!). As someone who loves fashion, I was also really impressed with the costuming worn by all of the characters in this movie…right on track for the period of time it was representing.

I am not going to tell you how this one ends as I really thing you all need to go out and get the movie and watch it. Since receiving it, we have watched it twice and will be watching it a third time in a few days when my BFF comes over for a dinner/movie date with me. If you think this movie will be “boring” like most historical and biblical pieces…think again! It’s very dramatic and entertaining…definitely a video you need to pick up and add to your movie collection!

    This movie does sound like one I must see – but how can you go wrong with that acting cast!

    This one is actually a few years old. I remember getting it from the local Blockbuster before they went bankrupt and closed. According to IMDB it was originally released in 2006. I saw it at my local Food Lion just the other day for $5! I guess they’ve just released it on BlueRay. Agree with the review… it was a great movie. Ahh I remember when Luke Goss was singing with his brother Matt, and cousin in the group Bros. Takes me back to late 80s high school days!

    Wow – I must see this. Never heard of it (why are soem of the best movies so “underground?”). Will look for it on Netflix.
