Movie Review: Life of Pi

March 16, 2013 by Shelly

Life of Pi movie DVDHow many of you went out and saw “Life of PI” when it hit the movie theaters? Well guess what, if you loved it and want to own it…it was released on DVD on March 12th, 2013! If you missed it and want to see it…go out and purchase it today!

This movie was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and it one many Academy Awards that it was nominated for! You just can’t go wrong with adding “Life of PI” to your video collection!

With incredible cinematography from Oscar nominee Claudio Miranda** (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Tron: Legacy) and masterful performances from newcomer Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan (The Amazing Spider-Man, Slumdog Millionaire), Rafe Spall (Prometheus, Anonymous) and Gerard Depardieu (Paris, je t’aime, City of Ghosts), the LIFE OF PI Blu-ray 3D is loaded with over two hours of behind-the-scenes special features, including deleted scenes that will make you rethink the story (also presented in 3D), five featurettes that dive into the making of the visual spectacle, 60 pieces of inspirational artwork, storyboards and more.

Movie Synopsis: Embark on the adventure of a lifetime in this visual masterpiece from Oscar Winner Ang Lee, based on the best-selling novel. After a cataclysmic shipwreck, young Pi Patel finds himself stranded on a lifeboat with only one other survivor ~ a ferocious Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Bound by the need to survive, the two are cast on an epic journey that must be seen to be believed.

Major Media Reviews: Newsweek says “Stunning” and Los Angeles Times says “A Masterpiece” and I would have to agree with both!

Our Thoughts: Hubby and I sat down a few days ago and watched this DVD from start to finish! He had seen it before at the movie theater but this was the first time that I have seen it.

I first want to state this…the photography done for this movie is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the acting is impeccable and “on-cue”. I would classify the movie as being a fantasy-adventure and it was well-written (it flowed nicely from beginning to end).

I was really engrossed in the relationship that develops between Pi and Richard Parker (the tiger) and it was amazing to see that relationship & bond develop between a human and an animal. It was totally believeable, even though it’s a fantasy/adventure piece.

I am not going to tell you the ending on whether or not they get rescued, because I really think you need to watch the entire movie and I don’t want to spoil the ending for you.

This is one movie you definitely need to see and since receiving our review copy, we have watched it three times! Every time we watch it, we see or hear something new! We give it 9 stars out of 10 stars on our movie rating scale! Where’s the popcorn? LOL

I tried to read the book a few years ago and struggled to finish it. Based on your review I’ll give the movie a shot, though. Thanks!
