KOOPS’ Gourmet Mustard

March 20, 2013 by Shelly

KOOPS' Gourmet Mustard

Summer is just around the corner and that means backyard barbecues, family picnics, family reunions, pool parties and all kinds of fun outdoor activities. I don’t know about all of you, but I am really looking forward to some great tasting food this Spring and Summer season.

Today, let me introduce you to Koops’ and their wonderful gourmet mustard’s! The company has been in business since 1897 and they currently make 8 different styles of mustard! In their product line you will find: Original Yellow, Arizona Heat, Course Ground, Deli Spicy Brown, Dijon, Dusseldorf, Honey and Horseradish.

The company sent me a bottle of all 8 different mustard’s for my review and today, I am going to talk about 4 of them here on our blog. All of the Koops’ mustard’s are all-natural and gluten-free!

Arizona Heat  – A blend of slightly sweet stone-ground mustard and a little ‘bite’ of the Southwest. Use on sandwiches and hot dogs instead of relish. Also great as a dipping sauce or recipe enhancer.

Dusseldorf  – Classic German mustard with a hearty taste and creamy texture. Perfect for any sandwich brat, or hot dog.

Horseradish – A savory blend of coarsely milled brown mustard & horseradish. A classic American brown horseradish mustard from Koops’ – since 1897.

Stone Ground – A coarse-ground mustard with a good tangy zip like our smooth-grind Dijon and full, robust mustard flavor that matches its rich texture.

Okay, now let me tell you how we sampled & enjoyed each of these gourmet mustards!

First up, the Arizona Heat & Dusseldorf mustard’s. The Arizona Heat mustard has a spicy kick to it, but it’s not mouth-burning hot at all. The Dusseldorf mustard is really a thick & creamy mustard which we also used on hotdogs and hamburgers. We had a family barbecue and almost all of the girls used the Dusseldorf mustard and the guys in our family love things hot & spicy so they went for the Arizona Heat. Both were equally delicious!

Next up…the Horseradish! I am not a huge fan of horseradish but my husband is! He loves mixing in some horseradish with his scrambled eggs, so that is what I did! I always mix up his eggs by using 2 eggs, a little milk, pinch of salt, pinch of pepper and I added a 1/2 tsp. of the horseradish to the mixture. Then fry your scrambled eggs as normal. Hubby has been eating his scrambled eggs like this since we received the horseradish. He LOVES it!

Homemade Deviled EggsFinally…the Stone Ground mustard! This mustard is a little chunkier than your standard smooth yellow mustard but has a better taste to it (if you ask me). I made a batch of old fashioned potato salad for our family picnic and used some of the Stone Ground mustard in that. I also made a batch of deviled eggs and used it in those too! If you love using mustard in various recipes (like potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs, egg salad, etc.) then this mustard is for you! I love the tangy taste to it and the consistency is perfect for using it in your various recipes.

Overall, we love all 4 of these Koops’ mustard’s and it is fun trying them out in different recipes! The most versatile one out of the bunch is definitely the Stone Ground but if you like mustard with a spicy kick, go for the Arizona Heat!
