I did it! I fixed our leaking faucet all by myself!

Leaking Water Faucet

Drip, Drip, Drip…We have all heard the dreaded leaking faucet drip at some time or another in our lives. A drippy and leaky faucet is annoying and it wastes precious water when it’s not dealt with in a timely manner.

As a home owner, you can usually repair these types of problems quickly and easily yourself. If the problem is from a worn out washer, you can find step-by-step instructions (along with photos) online on how to remove the old washer and replace it with a new one. Replacing the washer is quick, easy and very inexpensive to do.

If the problem is more complex and you need to replace the entire faucet, well…you can do that too! I found several great free YouTube videos which show you step-by-step on how to remove your old faucet and how to install a new one.

For those of you who like to read instructions and do it all by yourself, almost all faucets that you buy at a home improvement store come with very detailed instructions and helpful diagrams.

Last week I decided to tackle our leaky bathroom faucet and the first thing that I checked was the washer, which was fine. I then took a part the old faucet and saw had badly damaged it was from wear and tear.

I headed on over to our local home improvement store and purchased a new water-saving faucet and brought it home. I was really amazed at how detailed the instructions and diagrams were. I read over the directions and then got busy installing our new bathroom faucet. The entire process from start to finish took me about 30 minutes and I think that is pretty good for a newbie like myself.

As a woman, I have been learning how to do all of these home improvement and home repairs by myself and I have to admit, I am pretty darn proud of myself. Matter of fact, next week I am going to replace all of our tub and shower fixtures myself and I am pretty excited about tackling that project next.

Do you consider yourself to be a handy woman? Do you like tackling home improvement projects yourself or do you hire someone else to come in and do them?

I think you are right to be proud of yourself.. We all rightly feel a sense of accomplishment when we do something new. I can do some things and then I call a professional to do the others.

You go, girl! I hope you get a good feeling every time you use that faucet.

I’m reasonably good at fixing smaller things that break around the house, but it hurts my spouse’s feelings. So most of the time I don’t tell him. LOL

Good for you! I’ve lived in my house for 30 years. I won’t do major plumbing or electrical, but just about any thing else. It’s a plot by men everywhere to make us think these things are just too hard. ‘Don’t worry your pretty little head about it’

I am proud of you! Congrats! I am not that great at fixing things around the house, but my husband is wonderful at it. He tackles the small, large, and “please honey let’s just call a pro” jobs. I believe that I am willing to try to do things on my own when need to, but, luckily, he is there. I think you should celebrate your skills.
