Hand Washing Dishes Vs. Using the Dishwasher

With the invention of the electric dishwasher women and men all around the world can spend less time in the kitchen. I admit, over the years I’ve found that using the dishwasher was quite convenient and saved me time. With that said, I also noticed an increase in my electric bill because of it. So…pay more to run the dishwasher or spend more time in the kitchen washing dishes.

Personally, I’ve chosen to utilize both. On the days that I’m not as busy I will stand there and hand wash our dishes. On the days where I’m busy with work or family activities, I’ll run them through the dishwasher. If I do use the dishwasher…I always use the AIR DRY setting. It helps a little bit to keep those electric bills down.

Hand Washing Dishes Vs. Using the Dishwasher

When it comes to hand washing…I feel I do a better job at getting them clean! I can get into the nooks and crannies, I can let things soak if needed and I don’t have water spots on them as they air dry. Some things like your good china and some cookware should never be placed in a dishwasher. I admit though, I’m picky about the liquid dish soap that I use when hand washing. I like to use Dawn because I find it’s the best at removing stains, grease, oily residues, etc.

The dishwasher…a love hate relationship. I hate wasting time rinsing all of the dishes as I’m loading up the machine. I hate seeing disgusting food and particles laying in the base and sometimes I really hate the “smell” that can ooze out of a dishwasher. Yeah, I need to clean it more often. Then there’s the shocker with the electric bill. Love hate relationship indeed!
