Are All Divorce Lawyers Created Equally? Heck No!

March 1, 2013 by Shelly

How many of our blog readers are divorced or in the process of going through a divorce? Personally, I have never been divorced and have been married to my high school sweetheart for the past 27 years.

With that said, my sister is currently going through a divorce and it’s a pretty ugly and vile divorce at that! My sister had a really terrible divorce lawyer who she recently fired and currently has hired a fabulous divorce lawyer to handle her case.

Let me explain, about 2 years ago she caught her husband having an affair that had been going on for 9 months. Her husband not only had an affair, but he got his mistress pregnant and she was having his baby. On top of all of that, her soon-to-be ex had cleaned out their joint checking accounts, joint saving accounts and had been selling off valuable personal property behind her back. Trust me, my sister was totally clueless!

Choosing a Lawyer- What You Should Look For

Well, once she found all of this out, she booted him out of the house and hired an attorney to handle her divorce. Things were off to a very bad start right from the beginning when this attorney missed 3 pre-scheduled court hearings in a month! Then on the 4th reschedule hearing, he arrived almost 2 hours late and they had to reschedule again. My sister’s case was definitely not at the top of his priority list at all!

After she fired him, she went on a search to find a few Fort Collins Divorce Lawyers who could handle her case…she found the perfect ones! These guys totally understand what she is going through and are on “top” of getting this matter resolved.

We are hoping Crissy can get her divorce finalized by the end of the month and then she can move on with her life. She is really looking forward to getting this over with!

I am really sorry that your sister has to go through all of this , but at least she now has a good lawyer. i hope she will be able to soon go on with her new life and enjoy it without that deceitful husband around.

Wow, your poor sister! First having to go through such a betrayal by her soon to be ex-husband and then having a piss-poor pathetic lawyer on top. It is astonishing how in both cases, individuals cannot fulfill their obligations! It’s a shame that she had to waste her time and money with a lawyer that didn’t even care to show up to the proceedings! Sometimes you wonder at the blatant disregard shown in situations like this! Like what compels the lawyer to take the case on and then not do his/her job! I’m glad she’s found an attorney who can at minimum do the job at hand. I wish her luck for the judicial outcome and a speedy finalization so she doesn’t have to be in this stressful situation that long.

Thanks Ari and I totally agree with your assessment of that situation. She is really pleased with those new lawyers have already done more in one week than the past one did in 3 months!
