Our Review: We are a big “gaming” family and own at least 100 card, board, dice and digital games, and every time we get a chance to add a new game to our collection…we get pretty excited about it!
The great folks over at Educational Insights sent us their “Wordical” game to review for all of you. It’s a combination dice rolling and word-building game made for ages 8 and up. You will need 2 to 8 players to play the game which makes it a great educational game for family game night. We decided to sit down and try out this game with our 11 and 13 year old nephews, so on our family game night…we had 2 adults and 2 older children playing the game.
How to Play the Game: Deal each player 5 consonant cards and take turns rolling 2 vowel dice. All players race to build the highest-scoring word they can, using as many letters from their cards and the dice as possible. Tally up the points, deal new cards, and roll again!
One of the things I love about this game is that it stores nicely inside a metal tin, no cardboard boxes that you need to worry about that fall a part in a short period of time. Next, I love it’s compact size. We can take it with us when we travel or go down to our beach house. Third, I love how quickly you can play this game…it doesn’t take 3 hours to complete like some of your large board games do.
The dice that are included with the game are over-sized dice, so you don’t have to squint to read them (great for me who often forgets to put her glasses on). The game cards are a really nice quality and will last a long time…everything fits nicely inside the storage tin.
Anyway, we all sat down to play the game and the game play went by pretty quickly, took us about 40 minutes if that. The 2 boys really loved this game and found it to be entertaining and fun! We had to “laugh” at them as they were having a great time racing to spell their words. We love educational games that are fun and add to their learning experience and Wordical is definitely a fun game to play! We really are enjoying it!
You can purchase the Educational Insights Wordical directly from Amazon for an affordable price.
