Winter Storm Property Damage

February 18, 2013 by Shelly

Winter Storm Damage with Downed Tree LimbsWe had a terrible winter storm come through here a week ago that did all kinds of property damage. We had snow, sleet, ice, freezing rain and wind gusts up to 45 mph. This storm was relentless and lasted almost 21 hours…leaving all kinds of damage behind.

Here’s a partial list of damage that we received:

* At least 2 dozen shingles are missing from our roof.
* 2 Pieces of siding have disappeared.
* The roof on our one garden shed was damaged by a tree limb.
* Cracked window in our guest bedroom.
* Partial fence collapse in our backyard.
* 2 ceramic planters on our front porch are cracked.
* Small, mediume and large tree limbs throughout our backyard
* 1 garbage can is totally missing from our property.

We’ve been surveying all of the damage that has occured and will be contacting our insurance company about it. One thing we learned right from the beginning that it’s important to photograph everything, take a video if you can and document it all…not matter how small. Keep very detailed records when dealing with an insurance company regarding property damage.

The second thing we learned…be patient! If you suffered damaged so did others in your area. Insurance companies typically drag their feet and are slow to resolve any claims. You need to keep after them and do so on a weekly basis. Even if it’s just to ask for an update.

Congratulations to the winners. I am glad you are feeling better. You probably shoud have rested more, but I am sure it felt good to get online work done and the two rooms cleaned out and fixed up.
We had one of our sons and his wife over for an enjoyable dinner and we shall see my other son soon too.
