Toockies Multi-Purpose Eco Friendly Scrub Cloths

February 23, 2013 by Kristine

Toockies dish cloths are multi-purpose scrub cloths that are woven by hand by women in India who knit them as a means for providing for their families. They are designed for scrubbing and wiping, and are perfect for picking up small crumbs, dust and other debris that collects on the surfaces of our homes and cars, and are even gentle enough for our bodies. The dish cloths are made from 100 percent certified organic cotton and are free of dyes and colorants.

I received a 6-pack of Toockies to review from Paperless Kitchen; a one-stop shop for paper towel alternatives and green kitchen products. They proudly do their part to help all of us adopt a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle with unique eco-friendly products. I have been using the Toockies in a variety of different ways over the last week and I’m happy to introduce you to this versatile product.

In my effort to cut down on waste in my house and save money on paper products, I’m definitely all for using products like Toockies. My husband is actually thrilled about it too, but his reasons differ quite a bit from mine. He loves the fact that I’m actually cleaning things in our home that I’ve never even taken a second look at! A few nights ago, I used the Toockies to clean the stove top. I thought he was going to have a coronary right there!

Seriously though, these great little cloths reminded me of something my grandma would have knitted and they hold up just like something she would have made. They are very strong and sturdy for sure. I’ve washed mine a few times and each time, all of the stains from my laborious cleaning have come out easily and they hold up beautifully. As I mentioned above, I cleaned my stovetop with them and where they really worked well was removing dried food and liquid stains from the range. I used a little bit of cleaning product and scrubbed with the Toockie cloth and everything cleaned up perfectly. The special woven design on the cloths really scrubs nicely without scratching anything. Thinking back to when my son was a baby, I remember his high chair would get pretty dirty and if by chance, I didn’t do a very good job of cleaning it up, there would be dried food on the tray. The Toockies cloths would be just the thing to clean up that kind of mess that most new moms know all too well.

I’ve also been trying out the cloths on different surfaces in the kitchen and the bathroom. I used them to clean the bathtub the other day and afterwards, it was sparkling from top to bottom. I would normally use a sponge to clean it, but used the cloths instead and I loved how well they cleaned the hard water stains around the drain. My tub was so clean and inviting, I couldn’t wait to have a rendezvous with Mr. Bubble and a nice glass of chardonnay.

I also gave the Toockies a try in the shower—since they are so gentle, I thought I’d use one of the cloths instead of a washcloth. I squeezed some shower gel on it and it really made a nice, bubbly lather (I like bubbles apparently). I also had my 8 year old son, who has a mild case of eczema, try them out when he took a bath. The cloths are soft and are 100 percent organic cotton, so using them on my skin and especially on my son’s sensitive skin is a no brainer for me.

The Toockies cloths are machine washable so they can be used again and again, and they really are a great alternative to other products we all use way too much of, like paper towels and sponges, and in the long run, it saves us time and money.

One of the coolest things about the Toockies cloths is on the back of the package. Each package is personally signed by the woman in India who made them. You can actually go to the Toockies web site to read about each of the artisans and their wishes for their families. That really touched my heart and made me realize that even something as small as a cloth can connect us, even in a little way, to someone across the globe.

This is a great product: green, useful and helping others. I never thought to useknit cloths for cleaning – but it makes sense.

Green, useful, helping others – That’s a bunch of good from small cloths.

My daughter-in-law is really getting into going green and using less paper products. She likes to use microfiber cloths and dish towels. I really think she would find this useful. I love how you talk about the woven design being good for scrubbing. With two kids and two dogs, my son and daughter-in-law need a durable product that is well made. Added bonus, you are helping the women in India. Thanks!

i love the multi purpose use of the Tookies. Amazing how they clean up the spills and stains and you can use them in the shower/bath. Thanks for the review. I’ve never heard of them before but I’m going to the website and see what else they offer. 🙂

I’ve found that fabric or knit cloths work really well to remove hard-to-clean areas (probably due to the texture, I’m guessing). These cloths seem like a green-friendly way to get things glistening with less chemical solutions.
