Summer Camp Programs in New York State

February 16, 2013 by Shelly

When I was 13 years old I can remember my mother sending me away for summer camp and it was a wonderful experience for me. As an adult, I like to share my fond summer camp memories with anyone who will listen to them!

I can remember learning how to paddle a boat, ride a horse, play volleyball, learn rock climbing, hiking and all kinds of other fun things! That year I went to summer camp, I met a girl named Renee and we quickly became best friends and to this day, we continue to be best friends!

Now that my two nephews are ages 11 and 13, my brother is looking to send his boys to summer camp and is considering a camp in New York state.

He told me that one of the things that impressed him about that particular camp is that they have resident medical staff (nurses and a doctor) that stay at the camp in case of an emergency. That is important to him since my nephew C suffers from Epilepsy.

I went over and took a look at their web site myself and it looks like they have some wonderful camp programs like: swimming, boating, mountain biking, rock climbing, roller skating, horseback riding, water skiing, wake boarding, martial arts, archery and a whole host of other activities that I know his boys would enjoy.

Did any of you go to Summer camp? Did you enjoy it? For those of you who have children, do your kids go to Summer camp? We would love to hear about it!

I only went to a summer camp for one summer in Maine and it was a lot of fun. There were so many different supervised and unsupervised activities.

I actually did go to summer camp every summer from age 7 years until 14 years old. The first time was for 2 weeks and after that every year it increased. I always had a wonderfully amazing time. I went to a girls camp, Camp Hayward in Massachusetts which was run by the YWCA.
