Replacing the Plumbing System in an Old Home

As you all know, my husband and I finally moved into our new home early last month and since then, plumbing problem after plumbing problem has occurred. Over the past few weeks, I have really gotten to know

You see, our home was built back in the early 1960’s and we fell in love with this home due to it’s old country charm and it’s family history. The home originally was owned by my great auntie and when we had to place her into a nursing home, we decided to buy it.

For the past 9 months we have been gutting the home and remodeling it. So far, it’s been given a brand new kitchen, two new bedrooms, a new master bath, a new dining room and a laundry room. We still have to remodel the other bedroom, living room, family room. guest bathroom and my craft room.

In addition to remodeling the home’s existing rooms, we want to build onto the home and add an additional bedroom, bathroom and two-car garage. Geesh, we still have a lot of work to do!

Anyway, over the past few months we have had a lot of plumbing issues here in our new home. All of the plumbing in the home was original to the home which has caused us several headaches! My great auntie and uncle never updated any of the water works or drain works over the years…nope, not at all!

We have had toilets clog up (way too many times to count), sink drinks clog up, pipes burst in our basement and laundry room, and the latest problem…a clog in our main line drain. ugh!

My husband started replacing pipes back in November, but he still has a lot to do. In the meantime, every time I need a professional plumber to come into our home, I definitely know who to call!

Do any of you live in an older home? If so, have any of you had issues like this with old pipes and drains? I would love to hear about it!

Once we get this issue all fixed up, we will be getting new windows, house siding, shutters and a new roof later this year.
