Please Take Care of Your Pets During Cold Winter Weather

Please Take Care of Your Pets During Cold Winter WeatherWe’re expecting some brutally cold winter weather over the next week or two and I wanted to post a friendly reminder to pet owners. If you have a dog or cat that goes outside you need to protect them from the cold. A dog and/or cat can freeze to death in a matter of minutes. They can get frostbite just like humans and get other type’s of weather-related injuries.

As a pet owner it’s your responsibility to keep your pets safe! Being outside in the icy cold is no place for YOU or your pet!!! If they need to go outside to do their bathroom business…limit it to just a handful of minutes. If possible, keep them leashed so that they don’t run around or take off. You want to get them back inside quickly.

Once they’re back inside dry them off and warm them up. If they’re shivering and shaking…they were outside too long. Make sure your pet stays well-fed and hydrated during these cold winter months. If possible…get a doggy jacket or sweater to help them stay warm. Cats typically won’t wear clothing, so I recommend that you keep them indoors and let them use the litter box.

Winter weather is here! We can all get through this cold spell together. Let’s all stay safe…including our animals.
