Paperless Kitchen SKOY Cloths

SKOY cloths are a re-usable earth friendly cellulose based cloth that are biodegradable, compostable and can be used in multiple ways throughout your home. It’s ideal for the kitchen, bathroom, or just about any other surface area in your home or office. It is durable and can be used in place of a sponge, wash cloth or paper towels. I was excited to get some to review from PaperlessKitchen a fabulous site dedicated to offering alternatives to paper products in the kitchen and for those looking to adopt a green, eco-friendly lifestyle. I was sent a Skoy Deluxe Kitchen and Bath Set that has 24 Cloths to try out.

The cloths are 100% biodegradable and are extremely durable. I have been using the product for a few weeks, but the SKOY cloths can actually last months and are the equivalent to using 15 rolls of paper towels in an average home.

My husband and I share the housecleaning duties (I know, I’m a lucky girl!) and cleaning the kitchen and the bathrooms are usually the areas that I focus most on. When I got the SKOY cloths, I was looking forward to giving them a test run since I go through a lot of paper towels and old rags when I’m cleaning.

When I first got the SKOY cloths, I was pleased as punch at how cute and colorful they are. The ones I reviewed came in a package of four, in different colors and three of them have a flower image outlined in black on one side. They look so much better than the frayed and dingy rags I usually use.

In the kitchen, I’ve been using the SKOY cloths on my countertops instead of paper towels and I’ve also been using them to clean the sink. I love the way they get my sink so clean, especially since we recently got a new sink and I’m trying to maintain that whiter than white look! After I do the dishes (or place them directly into the dishwasher), I spray some cleaning product in the sink and wipe it down with the SKOY cloth. Then I just wring out the cloth and let it dry on the sink. It’s so different than a sponge in that in never smells like day old trash and it dries really fast. Both big positives in my book!

The SKOY cloth is also really absorbent—15 times its own weight. When I sat down to write this review, my son spilled a cup of juice all over the kitchen floor. I kid you not. What impeccable timing that little guy has. I grabbed a dry SKOY cloth and a wet one. Normally, you use the cloths wet, but in this case, I used both. It worked like a dream and saved me a whole boatload of paper towels.

The last thing that I used the cloths for was cleaning my filthy yoga mat. I know that sounds kind of strange, but I used my mat yesterday in a yoga class and realized as I was face down in “child’s pose”, that it was disgustingly dirty. It had been over a year since I used it (embarrassing) and I thought I’d try the SKOY cloth on it. It worked really well. I just used a mild soap and it cleaned it up very nicely. I then threw the cloth into the washing machine to ensure all that dirt didn’t have a place to hang out and breed. The cloths are totally dishwasher and washer/dryer safe, so they are really easy to keep clean.

Overall, I found the SKOY cloths to be convenient, durable and I love the fact that they are environmentally friendly. Also, in case you were wondering, SKOY means “just for fun” in Swedish, so the next time you are ready to tackle a not so sparkling kitchen, maybe the SKOY will put a smile on your face and make it less of a chore!
