Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blends Cereal

February 19, 2013 by Shelly

Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blends CerealWhen I was a kid, I used to eat a lot of cereal for breakfast and/or as an after-school snack. Once I became an adult, I kind of got away from cereal for many years. It has only been the past few months that I have gotten back into the cereal eating habit and that is mostly because of the new “healthier” adult cereals on the market.

Recently I was sent a large box of the new Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blends Cereal to review for all of you. I will admit, I am a big fan of the Honey Bunches of Oats cereals and was super excited to try out this new cereal flavor. Here is some information about it.

(From the Company): With 50 million smiles and counting, Honey Bunches of Oats is introducing a new way to smile. Crispy mango flavored flakes combine with real coconut shavings and coconut flavored granola clusters in the new Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blends cereal.

Per Serving Facts:

* 10g Whole Grain
* 120 Calories
* 6g Sugar
* 9 Essential Vitamins & Minerals including 60% daily value of Iron
* 4 Wholesome Grains
* Heart Healthy (Og. Trans Fat, O.5g Saturated Fat, Omg Cholesterol)

Our Thoughts: As I previously stated, hubby and I are already fans of the Honey Bunches of Oats, but have never tried this new Tropical Blends until this review. The first thing that I want to say is that I love their cereal box design, it is very pleasing to the palette. It makes me want to take a trip to the tropics…right now!

When I eat cereal, I eat mine with whole milk and hubby eats his with skin milk (he is watching his weight) and I am on a high calcium diet, so I use whole milk. Anyway, for the past few days we have been enjoying a bowlful of this cereal in the morning for our breakfasts and were immediately impressed with it.

The cereal stays nice and crunchy, doesn’t get soggy within seconds like other cereals do. The cereal has a fantastic tropical taste to it…I really love the mango flakes with the coconut granola clusters and hubby is a big coconut fan, so he loves the coconut shavings. The flavors are beautifully blended together with one not over-powering the other. The cereal is semi-sweet, but not overly sweet, so there is no need to dump any sugar on top. It’s perfect just the way that it is.

Just yesterday, we had another bowl of this delicious cereal and this time around we added some fresh banana slices to it and that was fantastic too! Maybe tomorrow we will add some strawberry slices since we enjoy adding fresh fruit to our breakfast cereals.

Overall, we love this cereal and when we find it at our local grocery store, we will be purchasing it. I looked for it last weekend and our store didn’t have it yet, but the manager said it is indeed coming! Yeah!!!
