Decorating Your Home with Window Candles

Decorating Your Home with Window Candles

Window candles have been around for centuries and were very popular years ago. Over the years, these types of candles lost their popularity due to the fire hazard that they posed. Now that there are battery operated window candles out in the retail marketplace, this home decor trend has returned in popularity.

Home owners place the candles in their windows for many different reasons. Some do it for religious reasons, some for cultural and others place them in their windows just for the romantic glow that they give.  Here in Pennsylvania, many home owners place them in their windows as a sign of friendship and love to those who visit their home.

When looking for window candles to decorate your home, it is suggested that you go with battery-operated candles which are safe-to-use and affordable if you use rechargeable batteries to power them. You can also opt for the electrical powered candles which will cost you a bit more in electricity expenses.

It is advisable that you look for ones with weighted bottoms which help to keep them from tipping over and falling onto the floor. If purchasing electric-powered ones, make sure the cord is UL approved. If you really want to keep costs in-check, purchase window candles that have a daylight/nighttime sensor or ones that you can set on a timer.

Do you need to purchase one for every window in your home? No, you do not! You can buy as many or as little as you would like and most people just concentrate on placing them in the windows in the front of their home. That decision is totally up to you on how many to purchase and where you want to put them.

Adding window candles to your home’s decor is a great way to add some additional lighting to your home and they don’t cost a fortune!

My daughter-in-law did this at Christmas time and I thought it was very attractive. I shall probably do it next year.

I do this at Christmas but hadn’t thought about it throughout the year. How wonderful and friendly of your neighbors. It is a good gesture of warmth. I found at Dollar General, some LED ones that are battery operated and “programmable” of sorts. You “set” them and they will turn off and on automatically. This is really useful and the battery keeps the bottom weighted down.
