Movie Review: Hannah And Her Sisters Blu-ray DVD

Movie Review: Hannah And Her Sisters Blu-ray DVDMy husband and I are huge movie buffs and probably have over 3,000 DVD’s in our home collection. With that said, we get pretty dang-gone excited when we get new DVD releases that we can review for all of you!

Today’s movie review is on the new blu-ray DVD release on the movie called “Hannah and her Sisters” which was available for purchase on January 15th, 2013. The movie stars: Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Michael Caine, Barbara Hershey, Dianne Wiest, Lloyd Nolan, Max Von Sydow and Carrie Fisher. It is rated PG 13.

Synopsis: Brimming with laughter, tears and subtle beauty, Hannah and Her Sisters is a magnificent “summation of [Woody Allen’s] career to date” (The New York Times). Winner of three OSCARS,®* and featuring a brilliant all-star cast, Hannah and Her Sisters spins a tale of three unforgettable women and showcases Allen “at his most emotionally expansive, working on his broadest canvas with masterly ease” (Newsweek)!

The eldest daughter of show-biz parents, Hannah (Mia Farrow) is a devoted wife, loving mother and successful actress. A loyal supporter of her two aimless sisters Lee (Barbara Hershey) and Holly (Dianne Wiest), she’s also the emotional backbone of a family that seems to resent her stability almost as much as they depend on it. But when Hannah’s perfect world is quietly sabotaged by sibling rivalry, she finally begins to see that she’s as lost as everyone else, and in order to find herself, she’ll have to choose – between the independence her family can’t live with…and the family she can’t live without.

My Thoughts: I have to admit, I am not usually drawn to this type of “sappy” movie but this one…intrigued me. Mia Farrow plays the eldest siter in this movie (Hannah) and the relationships she has with her family members is turbulent at times, mainly due to the jealousy that her two younger sisters have over Hannah’s acting success.

These relationships are pretty dynamic and it’s sibling rivalry at it’s best. I guess I am fortunate that I don’t have sibling rivalry going on within my family as it would surely drive me nuts. Anyway, these younger sisters sabotage Hannah’s career and all heck breaks loose. After the fallout, Hannah has to decide between her successful career or the jealous family. Who do you think she chooses? I can say this, I probably wouldn’t of made the same choice as Hannah did! hahaha!

I am not going to tell you how it ends as I don’t want to spoil it for you. If you have siblings or looking for a good family chic flick to watch, this movie would definitely be for you! The DVD is currently available for purchase nationwide where DVD’s and Movies are sold.
