How to Use a Shaving Brush to Get a Closer Shave

How to Use a Shaving Brush to Get a Closer ShaveJust like most men in America, my husband has to shave on an almost daily basis. He has dark, thick hair which means his 5 o’clock shadow shows up every day…at 5 o’clock! When it comes to shaving, it is important that your man have the correct shaving tools, including a shaving brush and it’s equally important that he use them correctly.

Today, we are going to focus on shaving brushes and how to use them to get a closer shave.

When purchasing a shaving brush for your man, you want to purchase a high-quality brush made from real badger hair. In addition, the brush should have a nice handle which is comfortable for your man to use. It is advisable that you purchase a stand to hold the brush which helps it to dry correctly after use and it will also help to protect it’s bristles when not in use.

The best time to shave is right after his morning shower or bath. Before he starts shaving, he needs to hold his shaving brush under hot running water for about 15 seconds to allow the water to absorb into the brush.  Turn off the water and hold the brush over the sink to allow the excess water to drain back into the sink, this will take about 10 seconds.

After the excess water is off the brush, swirl the brush around and into some shaving cream or shaving gel. Apply the cream or gel onto the face in an up and down direction until the entire beard area is completely and evenly covered. He needs to work up a great lather and relax while doing it!

It is now time for him to start shaving, but make sure he is using a fresh, sharp blade in his razor because dull blades can cut up his face and/or irritate his skin. If needed, he can reapply more shaving cream or gel by using his shaving brush as he shaves. Once he is done, he needs to completely rinse off his face using warm water and towel dry.

To clean his shaving brush, he simply needs to hold it under cool running water to rinse away all of the shaving gel and cream. Turn off the water and hold brush over the sink to let the excess water drain away. Place brush in it’s storage stand to dry.

He can now follow up with a good moisturizer or moisturizing after-shave to complete his shaving routine.
