5 Important Tips on How to Hire a Great Locksmith

5 Important Tips on How to Hire a Great LocksmithTwo years ago my husband and I took a 3 week trip up to the beautiful state of Massachusetts to house-sit for a family member who was traveling overseas. Although we were there to house-sit for my auntie, we decided to turn it into a long vacation.

Well, one evening we went out to dinner and to see a movie, and once we returned back home we realized we were locked out! Oh my gosh…yes folks, locked out! We had never locked ourselves out or forgotten keys before, so it was a horrifying new experience for us.

We humbled ourselves and went over to the neighbors house and they were nice enough to help us find a Locksmith to come out and help us. What was really nice about this situation was that our neighbors and the locksmith gave us a total education on what we need to look for when hiring a locksmith or locksmithing company should the need ever arise again. It is as simple as doing a Google search, there will be companies all over the world, but when you need a residential locksmithing in Baltimore area, contact Baltimore Locksmith, obviously, you would need to find one local to you. But do your research, and take a look below to find out what to look out for!

Today, I am going to share their tips with all of you.

1. Not all states require locksmiths to be registered, certified or bonded. When looking for a locksmith ask them about any licensing they may or may not have. This includes local, state and national certifications and licensing.

2. Ask them about their experience in the business and/or how long they have been in business. Yes folks, work experience does indeed count for something in this country!

3. Ask the company or individual if they make emergency calls, weekend calls or only regular daytime calls. If they do offer emergency and/or weekend calls, is there an extra charge for that and if so, how much? Is that charge reasonable?

4. Get an estimated charge for the work you need done ahead of time! You do not want any “surprise” or “hidden” charges/fees once the locksmith arrives to complete the work. If possible, get it in writing.

5. Does the locksmith offer a guarantee on their work and if so, for how long? Is this guarantee included in your price or something additional you need to pay for?

The locksmith we dealt with was very nice and professional. We were very pleased with his work and he got it done quickly. We were super happy to be back inside my aunt’s house again and trust me, we didn’t forget her house keys again! A lesson well learned!

I am always nervous about forgetting my keys, so I usually have an extra pair in a separate compartment of my purse. Your tips about hiring a locksmith are wonderful and I shall have to remember them for the future.

I am always afraid I will get someone pretending to be a locksmith! Asking for certification is a great idea! I’ve learned to ask for charges up front, but I learned the hard way!
