When it comes to buying birthday and holiday gifts for the children in my family, I like to look for toys and games that are educational and/or ones that offer imaginative and creative play. I am really picky about what I buy and where I buy it from.
Today, I would like to introduce you to the company called Babalu Inc. where you can find high-quality children’s toys at price points you are going to love! The company sent me 3 of their Shadow Stories Story Book Activity Theaters to review for all of you.
These activity theater story books are perfect for anytime of the day…but I especially like using them at night when Princess Gia is getting ready for bed. Each of the story books open into a shadow theater and each one comes with a working flashlight.
We received the following three:
* Forest Fairies
* Time for Bed
* Camping Out
They have titles that would be perfect for just girls, just boys or select one that would be unisex. They are made for children ages 3 and up.
Each book is a hardcover book with a spiral bound spine and they have a simple flap closure. You open the flap and open up the two flaps that make up the book’s theater. You use the flashlight which stores in the spine of the book to make cute shadows as explained in the storybook.
The stories are really well-written and the illustrations in each book are gorgeous! As you read the story to your child, they can use the flashlight to make the shadow on the book’s theater wall. (hard for me to explain). For the purpose of this review, I will describe in detail the Forest Fairies book.
Synopsis: Come to an enchanted forest where each animal is watched over by its very own fairy. Unfold the shadow story theater to discover the forest fairies. Share in the fun as you create the shadows by shining a flashlight on the die-cut pages within the book.
I started on page one and read it to Princess Gia, we then moved on to page two and after reading that page in the story, she used the flashlight to shine light through the die-cut page. The shadow that appears on the book’s theater wall is one of an owl! (see photo above ~ the tree leaves and the angel’s wings make up the owl when light is shown through the page). It’s really fun and very entertaining!
We have been using all three of the Shadow Stories books since receiving them. We rotate them around and do them with Princess Gia about 20 minutes before bedtime. Now that we have started using these books, she isn’t too interested in her old ones! These books are fantastic and they take the boring bedtime book reading to a whole new level!
