Belly Fat Diet for Dummies by Erin Palinski-Wade

I’m on a quest for better health and would not be hurt to wear a smaller size. Actually, the entire family is making changes, even the teens. We all exercise more and eat a much more balanced way. While I lean toward veggie fare, the rest of the family leans toward meat. And we are all carboholics to the nth degree. Finding the right nutritional mix for our new routines has been tricky, so when offered the opportunity to review a book on reducing belly fat, I jumped at the chance.

Belly Fat Diet for Dummies is one of the newest Dummies books. I wasn’t sure about a book for dummies at first, but am not ashamed to admit to owning a few of them. The For Dummies books this break down concepts and explains them in a user-friendly way. Belly Fat Diet is no exception. Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE knows her stuff and knows how to explain it well. Not only does she give the tools for changing one’s body, she explains the reasons why these tools work.

The Belly Fat Diet starts with food. Shopping lists, recipes, and several 14 day quick start plans for men and women are included. The recipes are easy to follow, delicious, and led to requests for repeats. The food does not seem or taste like diet food one would expect. Lean protein, healthy fats, and produce components are included in each meal. Palinski-Wade covers the needs of different types of eaters, including vegetarians and vegans. Dining guides for meals and snacks on the go are an added (and welcome) plus.

While the plan starts with food, movement plays an equal role. The exercise plan is easy and does not require a gym or expensive equipment. A walking routine with strength training several times a week are it. Strength training starts with bodyweight-only exercises such as planks with variations and includes beginning and advanced plans. Don’t let ‘beginning’ or ‘advanced’ scare you off. Most of the moves are easy to get into and get out of, even with my back and hip issues. The plans are easy to stick to and cheap, which allows followers to spend more on good foods.

A few weeks of Belly Fat Diet meals and mixing the strength exercises in with my current plan were easier than expected. As mentioned earlier, the family appreciated and welcomed the plan’s meals and enjoyed them. They also mentioned a change in how my clothes fit, but I’ve already been working on that. And Christmas is around the corner, so some of their compliments may be suspect. I think Belly Fat Diet for Dummies makes a great starting point for someone new or returning to fitness, someone struggling to lose the last few pounds, or anyone looking for a better, non-intimidating way to eat cleaner. It’s a good read. Give yourself or your family a gift health now or any time of year.
