Two Classy Chics 2012 Holiday Gift Guide!
Today I would like to introduce you to the company called Learning Resources who makes a wide variety of educational toys and games for children. When you visit the Learning Resources web site…you can shop as a Parent or as a Teacher. Furthermore, you can shop by age group, category, by brand or by subject. I love how user-friendly the Learning Resources site is!
You will find activity sets & books, construction sets, active learning & play sets, discovery & exploration sets, electronic toys, games, puzzles, water & sand toys and a whole lot more! Everything on their site is extremely well-made and affordable.
My Review: The great folks over at Learning Resources sent us their “Pop for Word Families” Game to review for all of you. This family-fun game is made for ages 6 and up, and includes the storage box and 100 family word cards. I love how the storage box looks like a popcorn container and the game cards look like popped popcorn!
How to Play: Place the popcorn box in the middle of the game playing area. Take a popcorn card out of the box and spin the spinner to see how many words you need to say. For example: If you took out the -ake card and spun a 2 on the spinner, you would need to say 2 words that end in -ake (like cake and rake). If you said the correct words and the correct amount of words, you keep the card. If not, you place it in a separate pile of un-popped cards. If you pull the POP card, return all of your cards to the box and remove the POP card from play. Take turns playing until the popcorn box is empty. The player who has the most popcorn cards at the end of the game wins!
All of the instructions on how to play are printed directly on the box, no game sheets to lose! The instructions also include an alternate way to play the game.
We sat down to play this game with my 9 year old god son and my 11 year old nephew. I thought maybe the game was too “young” for them but I was wrong! The 2 boys had a blast playing this game with my husband and me on a rainy afternoon a few weeks ago. Since that time, we have gotten out the game and played it an additional 2 more times!
The game is really compact in size and would be great for those of you who live in apartments, travel by RV, take with you camping or any other type of travel. It can easily be packed into a suitcase, backpack or tote bag! Our family is really enjoying it and we think it would make a great upcoming holiday gift or birthday gift for any child on your gift-giving list!
