Ottilie & Lulu is a natural skin and hair care line created especially for tween girls (and appeal to moms as well). Launched in 2009 by Deborah Hernan, the line includes face wipes, everyday moisturize with SPF 20, shampoo and body wash (all in one), detangler and conditioner (all in one), and a body glo lotion.
I remember my daughter’s tween years far too well. The time when puberty raised its ugly head, forcing the confused young one to ask about all things grooming – deodorant, fragrance, skin care, and cosmetics. Finding the right skin products for her wasn’t easy because she has sensitive, dry skin and many of my go-to’s were too heavy for her. And she turned up her nose at my homemade solutions. My Hippie Mom’s Specials did nothing but make her feel more self-conscious about the changes in her body. I wish we had Ottilie & Lulu back then.
Deborah Hernan created Ottilie & Lulu after the Revlon executive noticed there was nothing on the market for her tween. She created a gentle line of products that clean, protect, and moisturize young skin that contain natural ingredients that clean, strengthen, and soften hair and skin.
The folks at Ottilie & Lulu offered us the Hair Essentials pack to try and we liked it. Ottilie & Lulu products are free of parabens, phalates, mineral oil, petroleum by-products, or sodium lauryl sulfates. Hippie Mom approved so far. The fragrance is perfectly balanced – not too sweet or strong. We planned a spa day complete with manis and pedis and went to testing. We started with Feel Good Shampoo & Body Wash. Oat kernels, chamomile, wheat and jojoba proteins, citrus, and Vitamin C work together to conditions and clan hair and skin gently and thoroughly. The dual use product appealed to us both; it’s a time saver and cuts down on clutter in the shower. The lather was rich, creamy, and has an energizing fresh citrusy-minty scent. It rinsed clean and left our hair and skin feeling soft. Teen girl said she wanted the remainder for herself and reminds me of that daily. An 8 oz. bottle of Ottilie & Lulu Feel Good Shampoo & Body Wash retails for $14.
Ottilie & Lulu Shiny Silky Detangler & Conditioner was up next. This two-in-one contains jojoba and avocado oils and aloe to condition and protect hair from daily stress. It’s gentle enough for daily use and strong enough to detangle Teen Girl’s curly mop. If only we’d had this when she was younger! The post-shampoo combing occasionally led to tears and frustration. It would not have been the case with Ottilie & Lulu Shiny Silky Detangler & Conditioner. An 8 oz. bottle retails for $14.
It may be designed for tweens, but Ottilie & Lulu Hair Essentials made Teen Girl and me very happy. We would reach for it again in a heartbeat.
