Campbells Skillet Sauces Marsala with Mushrooms and Garlic

Just because I work at home does not mean that I have all of the time in the world to create meals for my family every day. In fact, it is after 4 pm right now, I am still working and I have no idea what I am going to be making for them tonight. So the frustrations of the busy working mom crosses many job descriptions! But there is a light at the end of a tunnel!

There is a brand new product out from Campbell’s that you might find to be an excellent solution! They have created a neat line of products called Campbell’s Skillet Sauces and I was excited to have been able to review them.

The Skillet Sauces come in six (6) great-tasting varieties:

Creamy Chipotle with Roasted Corn & Black Beans
Marsala with Mushrooms & Garlic
Thai Green Curry with Lemongrass & Basil
Toasted Sesame with Garlic & Ginger
Fire Roasted Tomato with Red Bell Peppers & Chiles
Scampi with White Wine & Garlic

These are pretty cool! I tried out the Marsala with Mushrooms and Garlic the other night with using Chicken tenders I had the foresight to take out of the freezer in the morning – yes, that is an issue sometimes! The sauces come in an easy to use pouch that you can just tear open (and it really does tear open yay) and use. First, I browned my chicken tenders in a bit of oil. I did not use any other seasonings since I was not sure what the flavor would be. After it was cooked most of the way through and browned nicely, I added the contents of the pouch. Simply stir and reduce the heat, cover and let it go. In 5 minutes it was ready to eat.

I had boiled some egg noodles to serve with this because it cooked faster than rice and I served the meat and the sauce on top. Dinner was on the table in 20 minutes! The taste, you ask?

Well, the first thing my hubby said was this would be fabulous on a steak and I concur! The taste was really good! You totally get the slight wine, butter and cream flavor. It was not over powering in any way; just a nice creamy sauce that you really wanted more of. It was not overly salty like many prepared box products tend to be nor did I get that fake chemical taste and That is a huge plus for me. In fact, I am pretty impressed with the fact there is only 60 calories and 4 grams of fat per serving. Not bad for a packaged mix.

One thing I would have liked to see was more of the sauce. It is packaged for 2 people and there was plenty to coat the meat with a bit of sauce left over. So adding it as a sauce to cover noodles or rice is not happening, unless you use 2 packets. The price point is okay at $2.49 each but if you do want more sauce to feed more people or add more sauce to your dish, you are at $5 for 2 packets. I am not an expert at what ingredients are used to make Marsala Sauce, but it may be a toss up on the value of the product. I would have to figure that one out and also remember and know that a prepared product is way faster than creating a similar sauce on busy nights.

Would I buy this again? My hubby and I really enjoyed the flavor and taste of the Marsala Skillet Sauce so I would say yes! I would totally use it on chicken again and on some steaks. Plus the Campbell’s website has a recommendation for a recipe using pork chops. That might be darn good too.

Next time you are at the grocery store, pick one up and give them a try. I am all for quick and easy meals and I think you can use these Skillet Sauces to help!
