Wild Planet Foods Canned Albacore Tuna

Wild Planet Foods Canned Albacore Tuna

Up until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of the company called Wild Planet Foods, so when I was asked to do a review for them, I had to go look on the internet to see what they were all about.

Wild Planet sells a variety of fish products like tuna, sardines, shrimp, salmon and crab meat products. What makes this company different from all the rest is that their fish and seafood products are sustainably caught! In addition, their products ONLY use high-quality fish/seafood and they obtain it right off of the boat. This ensures that you are getting a great tasting product to feed to your families.

My Review: The company sent me a coupon to go out and get a Wild Planet seafood product. For the review, we selected a can of the Wild Planet Albacore Tuna to try out for all of you.

The Wild Planet Albacore Tuna contains 3,460 mg. of Omega 3 per can and low mercury. If you are like me, you have heard all of those new’s reports where they talk about our seafood containing high amounts of mercury which can be dangerous to your health. It is nice to know that a company like Wild Planet is taking that seriously by offering low mercury tuna.

The product is available in a 5 oz. can and only contains two ingredients: Albacore tuna and sea salt. You won’t find “funky” ingredients in this tuna!

Tuna Casserole made with Wild Planet Tuna

We decided to whip up a homemade tuna noodle casserole and used my mother’s recipe. Once we had it prepared, we baked it in the oven for about 25 minutes or until it was done. We then spooned it into some serving bowls and give it our “taste test.”

The first thing that we noticed about this tuna is that it didn’t have a strongy fishy smell or fishy taste. We like fish, but we don’t like that overly fishy smell/taste. Next, it was flavorful and tasted exactly like tuna and didn’t have a bad after-taste to it like some of the other brands of tuna do. We enjoyed our tuna noodle casserole dinner and all three of my family members said it tasted good, better than normal! LOL

Overall, we were very impressed and pleased with the Wild Planet Albacore Tuna! The only “gripe” I would say about this product is the cost! Even though I got my can FREE for the review, our grocery store sells it for $4.99 per can! I am not sure how many families would dish out $5.00 for a can of tuna. Regardless, it was very good and with a money-saving cents off coupon, I would definitely buy it at a discount.
