Pennsylvania and Hurricane Sandy Damage

I would like to first say this…Thank you to everyone who sent me messages on Twitter, Facebook, Email and our Two Classy Chics Blog! Your prayers and good wishes meant a lot to me and my family.

Hurricane Sandy FloodFor those of you who don’t know, I live in South Central, Pennsylvania. We are 3 1/2 hours from the Atlantic Coast. We own a home here in South Central Pennsylvania and we own a vacation condo in Wildwood, New Jersey.

The Hurricane hit Wildwood really hard and our condo is still standing and is a 3rd floor condo. We heard that the hotel & condo complex suffered some heavy damage and that damage is unknown as this time since Wildwood was evacuated. Our maintenance man will update us once he can get back onto the island. Sigh, I hope it isn’t as bad as the photos look that are coming out of Wildwood.

Hurricane Sandy Shingles off Roof

Next, here at our Pennsylvania home, we suffered some minor damage at our townhouse and some moderate damage at the home we are remodeling (we are hoping to move into that home come late November).

This past Sunday, we started getting the outer bands of Sandy here in south central PA, we are an hour outside of Philly. We had steady rain all day and winds with gusts up to 25 mph. Then early on Monday morning things got considerably worst and all day Monday the wind was HOWLING here in PA. At times our windows were shaking so hard that I thought they were going to blow out. We had tree branches, garbage cans, outdoor yard items, pine cones, etc. all slamming into our windows. It was terrible!

Hurricane Sandy Tree Damage

Tree above was 24 hours before Sandy hit us. Beautiful leaves and leaves still on the tree. The photo below shows that SAME tree 24 hours after Sandy hit us. All of the leaves GONE! Hurricane Sandy left NO LEAF behind! Not a single leaf on that tree but yet, the squirrel’s nest remained! Geesh!

Then on Monday evening, all kinds of big tree branches and trees were coming down all over the place, it was pretty scary for sure! On Monday we had intermittent power & phone service but at around 5pm or so, it completely went out. We were in the dark with no power, water, cable, internet or phone until around 5:30pm last night.

Hurricane Sandy Tree Branches Down

We have inches upon inches of Fall Foliage stacked up in our yards and parking lots from Hurricane Sandy stripping all of the leaves from our trees. All rain gutters are clogged up so hubby has been out unclogging them and trying to clean up tree branches, etc.

We now have everything back on…but it’s intermittent again. We have hit & miss power and phone and that should be going on for a few more days as they get things repaired. It was a really “scary” time for us for sure…but WE ARE SAFE and very BLESSED! We have a big clean-up on our hands & a lot of repairs to make and will begin with those this coming weekend.

Hurricane Sandy Fence Down

Hurricane Sandy decided she didn’t like the wooden fences around our patios and she decided to tear them down. Guess she felt we all needed new ones. When those things came crashing down…it was eerie loud!

We are thankful that here in Pennsylvania we didn’t get the devastation that New Jersey and New York suffered but we did get some considerable damage from Hurricane Sandy. It will take us all weeks to clean-up, if not a few months!

We ask that you pray or send good vibes to EVERYONE who was affected by Hurricane Sandy! If you can donate to the Red Cross or some other type of organization to help those who were affected, that would be fabulous!

Thank you to all of our blog readers & online friends for sending us your prayers & good vibes. We appreciated in them greatly!
