Things to See and Do in Cape May New Jersey
Back in September of 2012, my entire family headed to the south Jersey Shore for a week long vacation. Once we were all there, we obtained a 15 passenger van rental and all headed out for the day to see the sights.
It was really fun to act like tourists for the day with our family and here are some of the fun sights we went to visit around the Cape May region of the Jersey Shore.
* Cape May County Zoo – This is a FREE zoo but they do ask for a monetary donation at the gate. Once inside the zoo you will see a large variety of birds, lions, tigers, monkeys, zebra, alligators, giraffes, etc. It is a beautifully laid out zoo and a great place to take the kids.
* World War II Look-Out Tower – The tower is located right on the beach at Sunset Beach in Cape May and it has been beautifully restored. Parking is free and you can walk around the garden area around the tower for free. On certain days, you can pay a small fee and actually climb all of the steps up the tower and get some beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surround Cape May area.
* South Cape May Meadows – This is a beautiful nature preserve by The Nature Conservancy and is totally free for the family to enjoy. There is a low-impact hiking trail that you can walk that goes around and through the preserve which sits right on the beach in Cape May. You can see beautiful wildlife in their natural habitat (various shore birds) which the kids just love. A great FREE family activity!
* Washington Street Mall – If you are looking to do some shopping, head to the Washington Street Mall. You will find all kinds of great boutique style stores, souvenir shops and places to eat. During the “in-season” parking can be a little difficult, so you might have to park a few blocks away from the mall.
* Miniature Golf – We love to play mini golf so we took the entire family down to Sunset Beach for a round of miniature golf! This mini golf course sits right on Sunset Beach and has beautiful scenic views of the ocean. Once we were done, we walked over to the Sunset Beach Grill and got drinks and ice cream. Fun, fun, fun!
There are a ton of family-friendly activities and things to d0 down in Cape May, New Jersey! The activities I mentioned in this blog post, were ones we completed in just one day! We had a great time with the family, and looking forward to doing it all again next year!
