My Daughter is Studying Full Time for her MBA Degree

October 10, 2012 by Shelly

A few months ago I told you all about my 27 year old daughter who wants to go back to school. She is currently working for a large business corporation, but wants to climb up the corporate ladder.

Well, last week she told us that she has enrolled in school and is trying to get her full time mba. Once she is done with school in 21 months, she is hoping to transition over to banking or accounting for the company she currently works for.

We are extremely proud of her, but we do know that it’s going to be a difficult road. She had her hours reduced at work to just part time hours, so she can attend school. On top of that, she is engaged to be married and has a 3 1/2 year old child. Talk about busy!!!

We are going to help her as much as possible by helping to pay for some of her schooling and by babysitting a few times a week. Her fiance is going to carry the “work load” and has increased his hours at work, to make up for the loss of income on her part.

Once she completes her MBA, she will be able to get a better position within the company (if she chooses to stay) or get a better job elsewhere. Furthermore, she can take her MBA anywhere and stay in-state or go out-of-state to gain employment.

The program she enrolled in has a great internship program where she can get business experience, while attending school. This will help to prepare her for her chosen career once she graduates. We all know that companies love it when fresh graduates have work-related experience!

What really surprises me the most is that this MBA program only takes 21 months to complete, wow…that is less than 2 years! I am pretty sure my family can handle all of this for the next 21 months and we are really looking forward to the challenge.

Anyway, if this goes well, my husband would like to go back to school and get his MBA once our daughter is finished with hers.

This is a blog conversation by the University of Denver, however, all the points and views are my own.
