Estate and Trust Planning – Are You Prepared?
A few days ago we got the call that my uncle was found unconscious and non-responsive by a neighbor. Once found, he was immediately flown to our big Medical Center here and was quickly admitted into ICU. After a few hours, we learned that my uncle had a massive stroke and is now in a coma.
Upon getting the news, it was left up to me to call my cousin down in Florida and give him the news about his father. We spent 2 hours on the phone the other night just talking about wills, living wills and estate administration. He was telling me that he got all of his own affairs in order just last month and that BoyesAndFarina has a lot of great estate and trust planning information on their web site for Florida residents.
Personally, I think it’s a wonderful thing when family’s take the time to discuss these important matters ahead of time, and to make the proper arrangements before a crisis hits.
My husband and I had all of our “plans” drafted up about 12 years ago and every 2 to 3 years, we update them again. It is always easier on family’s when things are prepared ahead of time and spelled out completely.
With this newest crisis going on within our family, I am hoping that some of my siblings will get on the ball and get their own plans drafted up and their affairs in order. I don’t know why some people seem to drag their feet when it comes to taking care of serious matters like this.
Anyway, things are not looking good for my uncle at this time. The doctors told us that he has about a 10% to 15% chance of pulling out of this. Right now we are all trying to be strong and praying that things will work out for the best.
