Last month my husband and I enjoyed a week long vacation down to the Jersey Shore. We love the North Wildwood area and when we go, we spend a lot of time sitting on the beach or walking on the beach.
Well, this time around something weird was going on and hundreds of horseshoe crabs were washing up on the beach! Some were alive and some were clearly dead. I don’t know if it was mating season or what…but it was really weird to see all of these horseshoe crabs on the beach.
My “Almost Wordless Wednesday” photo is one of the horseshoe crabs that we found on the beach that was still alive. He was beached up there and my hubby was “brave” and got him (without being pinched) and put him back out in the water. The crab quickly headed out to sea and seemed to be happy about the rescue.
We had to be careful at times walking through the surf because of the horseshoe crabs, some dead and some ready to pinch the heck out of us. Every few feet, hubby would say to me “Beware of the Crabs” so that is the caption for this photo! Enjoy!

Love the WW I wish we were closer to the sea- it is fascinating. Wonder what was wrong that they all washed in? Oh, and we did the squirrel thing once ourselves (re vet) about the only folks good with them are the wildlife rehabs if you can find one close by.
I will keep that in mind Ellen as we have a HUGE squirrel problem here, more squirrels than people living in my neighborhood so I am sure we will have another run-in with an injured squirrel soon.
On the west Coast sometimes we will have a dead zone where there are low oxygen levels in the water and dead crab will wash ashore. I’m not sure if that was case, but to see a bunch of crabs washing ashore would be freaky. We go crabbing at least a dozen times of year and my kids have no fear with picking up crabs…they’ll even kiss them! love your WW pic!
I agree. Good Karma for caring people.
I had something like this happen years ago when I vacationed in Fort Lauderdale Fla. Only they were Jelly Fish. I was young enough to be ignorant and ran over thinking they were balloons. lol I can laugh now but sitting in the ER for those burns on my leg weren’t funny at the time. 🙂

Carol,
Jellyfish scare me! My brother was swimming in the ocean when we were kids and he got 27 jellyfish stings in one hour. Mom had to take him to the ER and he spent 2 1/2 days of our vacation being treated for them at the hospital.
How kind of your hubbie! Good karma!
Happy WW!
We are both animal lovers and hubby always helps out injured and stranded animals. He took an injured squirrel into a vet 2 weeks ago that had broke it’s leg. (we think he was hit by a car). The vet had to put the squirrel down and we got the bill. Sigh!
