Redwood Hill Farm Green Valley Organics Kefir Smoothies
The older I get., the more trouble I am having with certain dairy products. I have cut my consumption way down on the products I use, but I still love them! Many people are having digestion issues with regular diary milk products so looking for alternative products just got a bit easier. I got to sample some goat’s milk yogurt and lactose free Kefir and other dairy products for you and I cannot wait to share them.
I have never had goat’s milk products before but I have been hearing a lot about them so I was happy to find a nice selection in the cooler full of products that I got for this review. Redwood Hill Farm is a local (to me) working dairy for goat’s milk and they produce organic goats milk products like cheese, yogurts and Kefir smoothies. Also included were some lactose free diary products from Green Valley Organics and they make lovely cows milk products like yogurt, Kefir and sour cream. With this big selection of wonderful products to try, we decided to have our neighbors come down and sample some products with us!
First up is the Redwood Hill Farm products. I was anxious to give these a try as we had never tried this but my neighbor loves goats milk and was happy to help us out! The first thing we sampled was some of the Kefir smoothies. These are a blend of amazing flavors and we love liquid yogurt at our home. It is packed full of awesome probiotics that really help with digestion. We love making smoothies with it too! These Goat’s Milk ones are really really good and these is no stomach issues at all. My neighbors son was in love with these and I think he could have drank several glasses! LOL
We were able to also try out the cup of yogurts too. These are also very flavorful and taste great! I am impressed by the goat’s milk product. We could not notice any flavor difference at all. Even hubby was impressed. I love a cup of yogurt in the mornings with a bit of granola on it with some cut fruit. Yum! I am not a big breakfast eater early in the mornings, so a yogurt is perfect until mid morning when I can get something else in my stomach.
The goat’s milk cheeses were something that I was thrilled to check out. I have seen them used on cooking shows, but I have never really tried them so we cracked open the ones that were sent over. We had an Aged Cheddar, a California Crottin, and a tub of Chevre. I had some baked pita chips, so we used that and started with the Chevre. This is a soft spreadable cheese somewhat like cream cheese and this one had Roasted Chile’s in it. all I can say is OMG! This is fabulous and everyone loved this cheese, especially my son who tried to take off with it.
We next tried the Aged Cheddar. I love cheddar and so does my son, but I was not too fond of this one. My hubby did like it, but it has a different texture and I am big on texture. My neighbor liked it very much. She liked the creaminess of the cheese. I think it would melt pretty well.
Next on our list the the California Crotin. This is a tiny ball of cheese made in the French Style and it had a rind on it that I removed as I cut into the main portion. The cheese has a slightly pungent aroma so you know it is going to be a stronger flavor. Hubby was scared, so I tried it first. The flavor is very good but it is a bit stronger than other cheeses that I have had. I did get my hubby to try some and he did not care for this one much although he said it was mainly due to the aroma. I think once you get over that, the cheese is very good. My neighbor liked it and did not mind the stronger flavor.
After all of this, we moved on to the Green Valley Organics Lactose Free Kefir’s and other products. First up were the yogurts. Having been raised on cows dairy products, I can honestly say that having a lactose free product is just as tasty. The Kefir blends were awesome! I just love blending up some smoothies with them because they give a great base to it and they are filling! The cups of yogurt are just as good and I am happy knowing that a lactose free product is just as good as regular. I have always been a bit nervous about purchasing them as I though they would lose something. but I was wrong! YAY!
I was also sent over some lactose free sour cream. Now this one is interesting. I couldn’t figure out if a sour cream was going to be good made this way. I have had like low cal and low fat ones and they don’t do it for me. So this was a great test. The sour cream has a slightly different aroma to it, but the texture is fabulous. Nice and thick and creamy. The taste is very good which kind of surprised me! But I am thrilled. Hubby really liked it too so this is a great alternative.
My girlfriend is highly lactose intolerant so I am so pleased to be able to direct her to these awesome products. I really like that all of the products we sampled are organic and include live active cultures for a healthy tummy and a healthy diet. Redwood Hill Farm and Green Valley Organics Lactose Free are the only dairy lines with Flourish – a unique blend of 10 carefully selected live and active cultures. Ten different strains of bacterial cultures is a lot; far more than you’ll find in most yogurts.
