Felted Feathered Friends Craft Book by Laurie Sharp

Felted Feathered Friends Craft Book by Laurie SharpI love to craft and dabble in just about every crafting medium that there is. I have worked with felt in the past, but never in the way like the artist has in this book. Our book review today is on a book titled “Felted Feathered Friends” ~ Techniques and Projects for Needle-Felted Birds by author & artist Laurie Sharp.

Felted Feathered Friends, welcomes readers to the amazing world of needle-felted birds. The wide variety of color, texture, and shape of birds provides endless inspiration for needle felting. The materials and tools are easy to use & are readily available since needle felting is gaining in popularity as a hobby and art form.

In Felted Feathered Friends, readers will learn how to sculpt wool roving with a barbed felting needle to make birds of every kind. Using only wool, a needle and a foam pad, crafters can create 20 unique birds organized from easy to more complicated designs. With clear instructions & superb photography, author Laurie Sharp and her husband, business partner, and photographer Kevin Sharp lead readers through each step.

Whether creating light-as-a-feather birds for display all around the house, perching a nesting robin on a window sill, hanging a crimson cardinal in a holiday tree, suspending mini birds in an easy breezy mobile, or even topping a wedding cake with two love birds, readers will learn that the sky is the limit.

Book Review: This is a hardcover book with 127 pages with lots of beautiful colored photographs. I have worked with felt before but I have never tried needle felting. The book starts out with an introduction, materials & tools chapter and then teaches you the basic techniques.

Then the fun part begins with all of the beautiful patterns & instructions to make various needle felted birds! There is a pattern for: bluebird, cardinal, dove, nesting robin, swan & cygnet, snowy owl, yellow warbler, peacock, flamingo, nuthatch, mallard duck, spring chick, love birds, bird mobile, bird ornament, hummingbird, steller’s jay, downy woodpecker, pelican and a puffin.

The book finishes up with a gallery section, about the author section and a great resources section in the back of the book.
