Slow Cooker Navy Beans and Ham Recipe

Fall is right around the corner and with the cooling temps in the evenings, I got in the mood for some navy beans and ham the other day. So I thought I would try it in the crockpot since I was working and would see how that would come out. IT was good! So I thought I would share this easy recipe with you so that when you are in the mood for some ham and beans, this is something easy you can throw in the pot in the morning and enjoy for dinner later.

1 bag navy beans – soaked overnight, rinsed
1 ham bone or ham hocks
water
garlic
pepper
Maggi seasoning
Potato Flakes

In a full size crock pot, place your ham bones in and your beans. Cover totally with water. Add in a liberal amount of garlic and pepper. Maggi seasoning is a flavor enhancer and is delicious in soups. Add in 5-6 shots of that and stir so all of the seasonings mix in. Cover and set on high. Cook 6-8 hours or so. Remove the bones and take off any meat and return the meat to the pot. Just before serving, you can thicken it with some potato flakes and add in additional meat if desired. Adjust seasonings, let it simmer in the pot for a bit before serving to combine flavors.

Looking for a new slow cooker? I have three of them and use them all of the time. The last two that I got…I purchased from Amazon and love them!

Sounds delicious! I’ll have to try this recipe. I’ll need to keep my eyes out for the Maggi seasoning. Can you buy it in an ordinary supermarket?

    • Yes, I find it in the seasoning aisle. If it is not there, sometimes they put it in the oriental section. It comes in a small brown bottle w. a yellow label
