Thunderstorm Damage: Downed Trees and Flooding
Yesterday we had one heck of a summer thunderstorm come through our area. For almost 3 continuous hours we had downpouring rain, thunder, lightning, hail and strong winds. The sky was so dark that our solar lights popped on in the middle of the afternoon. It was probably the worst thunderstorm we have had all season.
After the storm was over we went out to check out the damage. We had multiple medium and large tree branches down in our backyard. We lost at least a dozen shingles from our roof, part of our fence was knocked down that surrounds our garden. One of our bird feeders was completely gone…I guess the wind ripped it right off the shepard’s hook that it was hanging on!
Our entire neighborhood seemed to have some type of storm damage. Many of our neighbors were outside surveying their damage too. My one neighbor had a large tree branch lying across the top of his car. Yikes, so glad that nobody was in the vehicle at the time. With that said, major car damage with that.
Then there’s the roads leading in and out of our neighborhood. There’s 3 of them and 2 of them was experiencing flooding. There was water everywhere with no place for it to go. We were saturated from a storm a few days earlier so when this one hit…there just wasn’t no where for that water to go. Several of us have water damage to our homes and outdoor structures.
The summer season will be winding down soon so hopefully we’ll be seeing the last of these strong thunderstorms for awhile. We certainly don’t need any…anytime soon!
