7 Key Things to Consider When Purchasing a Quality Dog Door
My husband and I will be moving into our new house come early September and one of the things we are considering getting is a new Dog Door. Our grand-dog spends a lot of time with us, usually 3 nights a week, so having a high-quality 2-way dog door, is important to us.
When looking for a great one for your dog’s needs, you need to consider the following 7 things:
* Weatherproof – You want one that can handle the weather elements and do so for several years.
* Chew Proof – Almost all dogs go through stages where they chew up things and trust me, they can chew up dog doors!
* Energy Efficient – This is an important feature to look for. You don’t want a dog door that let’s your heating and/or air conditioning escape. All of our utility bills are high enough, we don’t need higher bills.
* Easy to Install – When we purchase doggie doors, we always look for ones that are easy-to-install. Years ago we bought one that took us 3 days to install and we were really unhappy with it. A week later we took it down, returned it and got something else.
* Durability – You want to find one that is basically indestructible because all dogs, large and small, are very hard on the doggie doors. Look for dog doors that are constructed of high-quality materials that have been proven the test of time.
* Warranty – Some companies offer limited time warranties on their products. When considering purchasing a new pet door, look to see if the company provides a warranty. If so, register for it!
* Cost – You know the old saying, “You get what you pay for”? Well, that holds true for making purchases like this! If you want one that is built-to-last and one that is energy-efficient, expect to pay more. With that said, it’s worth your investment in the long run.
If you keep these 7 things in mind when shopping for a new dog door, you will end up with the best one for you and your dog’s needs. Happy Shopping!
