Delicious Iced Coffees made with Gevalia
Summer is now in full swing and it has been extremely hot here on the East Coast for the past 4 weeks! When I say hot, try 15+ days in a row with temps above 93 degrees with a lot of high humidity! During all of this summer heat we are in the middle of major remodeling going on over at our new house. We are hot, sweaty and just exhausted on most days and when we want to cool down, we want an icy cold drink!
When most people think of coffee, they think of the traditional hot coffee. However, when it’s hot outside, that is the last thing that you want. Now you can have your coffee and enjoy it ice cold!
We were sent a bag of the Gevalia House Blend Coffee to review for all of you. The house blend is a robust coffee, but not bitter. The roast on this coffee has a captivating aroma that is only matched by it’s exceptional flavor. It is classified as a medium bodied coffee in a dark roast.
You can now make your own gourmet iced coffees at home and do it quickly and easily. You do not have to pay for those “overly priced” coffee house coffees anymore! Here are some iced coffee making tips from Gevalia.
1. Brew the Perfect Gevalia Iced Coffee: Use 12 slightly rounded Tbsp. of Gevalia ground coffee in coffee maker and fill to the 8 cup level. Brew. Refrigerate. Serve over ice. Makes 8 servings. The best Gevalia roasts to use when brewing iced coffee are House Blend, French Roast and Espresso Roast. (images available)
2. How to Sweeten Iced Coffee: The answer is simple syrup! Just mix ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water in small saucepan. Stir over medium-low heat until sugar dissolves. Refrigerate in tightly covered container up to 1 week. Make it even cooler by adding frozen raspberries!
3. Cold Coffee Recipes: Have even more fun by whipping a delicious iced coffee recipe like a Lemon-Ginger Iced Coffee or a Whipaccino to switch up your coffee routine.
4. How to Avoid Watery Iced Coffee: Don’t just pour hot coffee over ice. Instead, make coffee ice cubes. Just pour coffee into ice cube trays. Freeze and use in place of regular ice cubes.
5. Add Summery Flavors: Vanilla, orange, coconut and more – your favorite flavor extract (¼ tsp per serving) will dissolve quickly in hot coffee. Refrigerate. Stir and serve over ice.
We had some flavored syrups here (hazelnut vanilla and caramel) and decided to make our own iced coffees using the Gevalia House Blend Coffee. We brewed 2 pots of coffee and placed them into the refrigerator to chill for two hours. I waited until our worker guys were all hot & steamy and offered them each an iced coffee, their choice of those two flavors.
I removed my coffee pitchers from the refrigerator and pour their coffee into chilled cups (that I had in my freezer). I then stirred in 2 to 3 teaspoons of syrup and added in the coffee flavored ice cubes which I made the day before. I then served the iced coffees to our work crew and they absolutely loved them!
You can buy flavored syrups at your local grocery store or buy them online like I do. They are really easy to use and I like to use them in flavored hot cocoas too. Like I said, making homemade flavored iced coffees at home is super easy!
We love the Gevalia brand of coffees and have never been disappointed with any of the varieties that we have tried. They are never bitter and have a nice smooth taste and texture to them. They got different varieties available to suit every coffee drinkers needs! Furthermore, I made a batch of homemade coffee ice cream a few days ago and used the Gevalia House Blend Coffee for that and it was totally delicious! So if you make homemade coffee ice cream, pick up a bag of Gevalia House Blend for that too! Thanks Gevalia!
