Christian Rehab vs. Traditional Rehab
A few years ago a friend of mine got injured in a car accident and was in a lot of pain. For over 9 months she was on prescription pain medications as she went through numerous surgeries to repair her damaged body. About 8 months after the surgeries were all completed, we realized that my friend was taking narcotic pain killers for all the wrong reasons and that she had become addicted to those medications.
We decided to set up an intervention with a local specialist that helped her get into a Christian Rehab Center. While this intervention wasn’t pretty and was very stressful for all involved, it indeed was necessary so that we could get “my friend” the help that she needed.
Within a few short hours of the intervention, she was admitted to the rehab center and we couldn’t see her for about a month. They felt it was very important that she solely focus on the task at hand and that was to get better. After the first 30 days were over, we were allowed in to see her and wow, what a difference those first 30 days made!
My friend was like her “old self” again and it was really nice to see her “clean” and talking about her faith again. For a long time she had abandoned her faith as the prescription drugs had over-taken her life and became her first priority. Everything was all about her getting those drugs and taking them. Nothing else mattered to her, including her loving family and friends.
The reason I am talking about this today is because I do have a cousin who has been in and out of rehab 7 times in the past 14 years. He goes in, gets treatment and then within weeks of being released, he is back on drugs again! I think the reason he is failing at sobriety is the fact that he hasn’t tried a Christian Rehab Center. (he abandoned his faith many years ago).
My friend who went through Christian Rehab is dedicated to staying clean and has been clean for awhile now. Matter of fact, she is mentoring some other addicts through a program at our church and she is doing extremely well.
Since she had such great success with the rehab center she attended, we are hoping to set up another intervention for my cousin next week and hopefully we can convince him to go where my friend went. I think having the “Christian” aspect to your drug rehabilitation and counseling can really make a difference.
Anyway, that is our plan and we are praying that it will work for my cousin and that he will accept the help that will be offered to him next week.
