I was talking to my sister the other day and she was telling me about all of the issues my niece was having finding a good pediatrician in Austin. She moved to Austin last year and I think she has been through 2 or 3 different doctors. The issue started when her baby was born and had a tough time in the process. Her baby was under weight and under nourished and needed some extra care.
My niece only had a general practitioner during her pregnancy so when she was told she needed to find a specialist for Baby L, she started looking around Austin. She made a few appointments and was not getting that warm and fuzzy feeling you want to have with a doctor. For one of the pediatrician’s, she had to wait over an hour before even getting into the room and then it was another 35 minutes. Scratch that one.
The next few were also great at over booking and while one she did intend to continue to see, he was not overly caring toward her needs as she asked a lot of questions since she is young and this is her first baby. I guess their needs did not mesh, to put it politely. So she kept searching and finally made an appointment with a pediatrician in Austin that seemed to be the perfect fit!
The office staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the doctors have been working one and one with her and the baby to help her get a great kick off in her new little life. What started out as a frustrating time turned into a pleasant experience. What a difference!
I know there are plenty of new moms out there or even moms with lots of experience that may have some helpful tips for someone out looking for a new pediatrician. What do you look for and what types of questions do you ask your potential new doctor? It can be a trying time to find the right one, so I am glad that my niece was persistent and found someone that she likes and trusts with her new baby.
