How My Brother Found Local Driving Jobs

A few weeks ago I was telling you all about my step-brother who was just about done with truck driving instruction school. Well, he finally graduated from that school earlier this month and had been on the hunt for local driving jobs.

Today I wanted to share some tips with all of you on how he found a hauling job quickly and easily.

First, he went out and had a professional drafted resume done. He made sure this resume included all of his educational information, past employment history and it also included his personal information. He then printed off 30 copies of this resume.

Second, he looked online and in the local phone book for all of the trucking and manufacturing companies in our area (a 60 mile radius) and drafted up a list of all of them. This was his point of contact list.

Third, he started going down the list and making contact with all of the companies. Some of them he had to postal mail-in his resume, others accepted his resume via email and a couple of other ones made him physically drop off his resume. He got all of this done within 8 days.

Then the waiting game began. He thought it would be several weeks until he got a call back but was pleasantly surprised that the calls started rolling in 5 days later! Wow! He was super excited about this quick turn around for sure!

Since that time he has gotten full time employment with one company and got part time per diem employment with another. He said it’s really nice to be “in-demand” with job security for once in his life!

He said that the reason he thinks he was able to land a few jobs right away was because he got a professionally written resume done and came up with a plan on how to get his name out there quickly (as explained above).

Anyway, I wanted to update you all that things are going really well for him and his family. They all are very excited about this new employment adventure in their lives.
