My 65 year old mother has been divorced for the past 30 years and guess what? She got married last year in Las Vegas! That’s right, her and my stepfather ran off and had themselves a Las Vegas Wedding!
Keith and my mom had been dating for 9 years and we never thought they would get married. They often traveled so we never suspected anything was going on. Not a thing!
They told us they were going out west to Las Vegas on vacation and would be back 2 weeks later. About a week into their trip we get a phone call and they tell us that they got married! They totally planned it before they left and it was not a spur of the moment thing.
They rented a small wedding chapel right on the Vegas strip and got married at 9:00 pm at night. Mom told me that they decided to do it this way since it was a second marriage for each of them and they wanted no fuss.
Once they got back home we sat down with them to watch a video tape of their marriage ceremony and I have to admit, it was beautiful! There was nothing cheesy about it and the ordained minister did a great job.
A month after they returned from their trip and the news traveled throughout the family, we decided to surprise them both with a “couples” bridal shower. We had over 80 friends and family attend the bridal shower and it was a lot of fun. They were both super surprised when they walked into the bridal shower and saw everyone that they loved there.
Memories…gotta love them! I wouldn’t mind taking a trip to Las Vegas next year to celebrate my 28th wedding anniversary and perhaps hubby and I will renew our wedding vows there.
